Job Purpose

National Grid has embarked on a new journey to digitize our Strategic Planning and Enterprise Architecture Management functions. Alfabet is the central EnterpriseHub, bringing together both our lines of business and IT, ensuring one balanced plan for how we achieve our company priorities. We are looking for an innovative, adaptable and result-oriented Product Owner that will help enable our platform. Providing direct line of sight from strategy to execution of change, with transparency and considerations of dependencies and relationships across all layers o fthe architecture and across all areas of the Company to provide insights on critical decisions. This is a critical role involved in planning and monitoring the performance of IT support for business as it is changing and throughout its lifecycle – ensuring that business strategy and demands are understood, prioritized and executed on, and that the costs, quality and risks to IT support are known and considered during decision-making. You will be a key facilitator for the team of planners, strategists, architects, portfolio managers and the CIO office tasked with IT transformation and enable them to transform business vision into successful projects and reliable operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as the voice of the customer in the definition of End2End Business and Strategic Planning

  • Work with stakeholders to build and deliver the roadmap

  • Provide insights into product, technology, and market trends.

  • Strong understanding of Strategic Planning and Enterprise Architecture platforms is critical.

  • Support IT Strategy and EA setting the long-term vision and strategy for platforms and high value workflows, and communicate this strategy to all the relevant participants and partners.

  • Support bringing new technology solutions to NG with return-on-investment analysis

  • Gather and manage product planning feedback through surveys

  • Monitor and report on product & platform business value KPIs. This includes providing weekly updates on deliverables.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to scope, design, concept test and deliver innovative solutions through Scrum, SAFe Methodologies.

  • Provide support to the development of business cases and operating plans

  • Prepare and present product planning communications for executives and stakeholders

  • Be a valued contributor to evolution of IT Foundations & Tools. Benchmark and incorporate standard/best methodologies.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Ability to influence and build relationships and demonstrate team leadership in all interactions.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or in related field; Master's Degree preferred

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software technologies

  • Strong understanding of the Alfabet Platform

  • Strong understanding of digital products & platforms like POL, ServiceNow, Apptio, etc.

  • Excellent leadership skills with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams

  • The ability to manage time and schedules to meet aggressive deadlines and influence through persuasive written and verbal communication

  • Thorough knowledge of Agile software delivery models (Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, etc.)

  • An ability to think strategically and creatively

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical discussions.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience with hands on experience in the Software AG Alfabet Platform

  • Certified Product Owner
