Job Summary

Provide consultative technical/analytical and functional support in the area of Contract Management/Administration for the Power Markets – Power Portfolio group. Lead and/or support team responsible for developing requests for new generation resources.

This is a multi-level position and the successful candidate will be placed based on job skills, knowledge and experience.

Power Contract Specialist GL25 minimum 2 years experience

Power Sr Contract Specialist GL27 minimum 5 years experience

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops the methodology for evaluating proposals received. Performs detailed analysis of monthly invoices to identify potential errors. Works with counterparties to resolve disputed items.

  • Recommend solutions to management. (Long Term Power Purchase Agreements are extremely complex with language that is often open to differing interpretations, especially in changing markets).

  • Develops new and revised contract language consistent with proposed business requirements.

  • Develops tracking mechanisms and SharePoint systems to ensure accurate invoice processing.

  • Analyzes Facility operational data to determine compliance with contract. (Including classification of unit outages, unit heat rate, startups and other information reported to the System Operator.)

  • .Download and scrub meter data (working with the meter department and the counterparties to resolve any missing or erroneous data). Prepares monthly invoices for Independent Power Producers and Feed In Tariff contracts.

  • Participate and contribute “cradle to grave” contract management from early involvement with developing the scope of work, RFP process, contract negotiation, contract award, contract maintenance, through contract closeout

  • Review contracts to identify the key contract rights and obligations, prepare a contract summary, ensure that all Company and Vendor requirements are defined, summarized and scheduled

  • Follow up with contract implementation and monitoring to ensure compliance.

  • Develop and maintain process documentation. Interact, communicate and champion process and information transfer to maximize implementation of improvement opportunities

  • Assist the Manager of Power Portfolios in identifying and documenting gaps in vendor performance and make recommendations for improvement opportunities

  • Analyze data to support contractor/vendor evaluation

  • Provide support and problem resolution to Manager Power Portfolios in coordination with the appropriate partners (Legal-, Procurement, Tax, Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Properties, Survey & Mapping)

  • Demonstrate teamwork - work collaboratively and cooperatively with others, leading and following as needed

Job Specific Qualifications

Desired Skills: (Knowledge and Experience Required)

Note: Higher position levels have more years of experience and more of the Preferred Skills.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business or Math

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point

  • Excellent Oral and Written Communications Skills

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of wholesale electric products

Advanced degree in energy related field or MBA

Advanced Excel Skills including macro programing and database tools

Demonstrated knowledge of Long Island Electric System, Knowledge of NYISO market structure.

Wholesale Power contracting experience
