Become a Grid Design & Performance Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for leading the design organization within the grid and have oversight of the effective and efficient execution of Grid design projects by coordinating with the Resource and Work Management (RWM) group to develop project schedules and to work with Internal partners to forecast work and develop a schedule of execution. You will also lead and develop all performance metrics, scorecards and other performance related tools within the grid and will provide direction and supervise resources to maximize crew safety, productivity, and efficiency. In addition, this position will help to establish work scopes, resolve contractor and customer issues and managing the budget by accurately accounting for work performed by contractors.

  • Manage employee performance and development by conducting performance planning and assessments, coaching and mentoring employees and performing disciplinary action when warranted.

  • Supervise the initiation and development of designs and cost estimates for Transmission projects.

  • Ensure all projects are designed on time, in the most cost-efficient manner, meeting all SCE Design Standards, and aligning with regulatory requirements.

  • Act as a planning and scheduling liaison for the grid.

  • Provide technical coordination with ET&S, MPO, EH&S and any other key partners both internal and external, through a combination of earnest communication and proactive engagement.

  • Work closely with Transmission RWM to ensure accurate and timely reporting as well as timely completion of work.

  • Project manage workload schedules and forecasts by coordinating with the RWM group and with Grid GS, Grid PSpec, supporting the long-term schedule with a goal of optimizing crew productivity.

  • Maintain performance management tools to drive grid productivity, cost efficiency and continuous improvement.

  • Track monthly scorecard results and develop performance strategies.

  • Support the Supply Chain Management with the commercial and operational management of the contracts while supporting the bid process, ensuring contractor safety, quality, and environmental compliance.

  • Manage the work order and material ordering processes for both SCE and contractor performed work.

  • Ensure that all grid source contractors execute within the boundaries of their contract and in alignment with grid objectives while protecting SCE’s interests.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Five years or more of combined experience in Electric Utility Transmission/Distribution electrical construction, design/planning, inspection or supervisory experience in a utility environment.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or related subject area.

  • Experience with large public utility’s policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

  • Experience with GO95, GO128, GO165, and GO131D as they relate to transmission.

  • Two or more years of experience with Supplier Portal, Microsoft Projects, Excel, Word, Power Point, Design Manager (DM), Automated Utility Drawing (AUD), SPIDA Pole Loading Tool and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Experience working with internal / external partners, which includes agencies and customers.

  • Experience with analytical problem solving, and with negotiating with external and internal partners.

  • Experience prioritizing workload and strategically delegating and supervising the progress of assignments and holding employees accountable for results.

  • Position will require up to 10% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
