SUMMARY OF POSITION: Traffic Control Specialist provides direction to crew members for standard day-to-day operations and coordinates with the Foreman. Ability to perform routine manual and semi-skilled work in the underground construction industry. Responsible for the equipment used in their day-to-day operations. This position may operate a variety of hand and power tools. In this position, you will work throughout the Denver area. You will report directly to the worksite.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Based upon the level of position, not all functions may apply)

  • Proficient in at least the following setups collectively (Flagging Operation, Lane Shift, Single Lane Closure with Arrow Board)

  • Show the ability and willingness to train other employees on the skill set of this trade while actively on a job site or off-site and reporting the performance to your supervisor.

  • Be an approved company Driver and hold a valid license throughout your employment.

  • Responsible for the equipment used and reporting all issues about the equipment to the supervisor for record-keeping.

  • The ability to conduct JHA on-site proficiently following company policy with proven proficiency

  • The ability to consistently record in writing or otherwise all documentation about the trade, including Job Tickets / Pre-trip & Post Trip’s / JHA’s / and others

  • The ability to professionally conduct a Crew lead’s daily responsibilities with little or no supervision

  • The ability to follow directives from a supervisor with little or no supervision.

  • The ability to be dependable consistently (including weekends when needed)

  • The ability to communicate effectively with Supervisor’s and fellow Employees

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Firm knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in traffic operations related to heavy/highway construction work.

  • Experience managing crews/job site

  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

  • Ability to work independently and in groups in order to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

  • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry heavy objects (75+ pounds), walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

  • Ability to professionally interact with supervisors, project supervisors, coworkers, public, subordinate employees, other contractors, project owners, and their agents.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1-2 years’ traffic control work experience in a supervisor capacity that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.

  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

  • Must possess and maintain current Traffic Control Technician TCT or Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification.

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean MVR is required per the company policy.

  • Ability to work flexible hours. Report directly to the worksite. Shift can start as early as 6:00 am. Possible night work and weekend work as well.

    Work Environment

  • Regularly works near moving traffic and machines and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue, and effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object.

  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands), and multi-limb coordination.

  • The noise level is generally loud.

  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.

  • Excellent stamina is required.

  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able for extended periods of time to perform any and all of the following: stand, walk, jog, climb, kneel, squat, bend at the waist, grasp, and hold various tools and objects with both hands.
