Job Description Summary:
A high school diploma or the equivalent; the ability to pass the Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST); possession of a valid driver's license; and must successfully meet the qualifications for (including medical) and obtain the appropriate license(s), certification(s), and endorsement(s) as required by the Company and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The ability to successfully complete the requirements of Splicer T.M.P. Training Program and to qualify as a Splicer at the end of training period; the ability to work emergency and planned overtime when the need exists; and the ability to acquire a basic knowledge of the Company's Safety manual and perform work in conformance with safe work practice and Company standards are required.
Individual will perform duties as required indoors and outdoors, at times under adverse weather conditions, for extended period of time as required; must have mechanical ability to assist operations with material, hand tools, and equipment pertinent to the installation and maintenance of cables and the underground system. Individual will be required during periods of trouble call assignment to be available at the reporting base within approximately one-half hour.
Bargaining unit employees under the TEAL contract will be given first consideration. In addition, this position is being posted internally and externally.
Splicing experience is preferred. The selected candidate must possess a valid motor vehicle license and be qualified to obtain or maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and must live within 30 minutes of the reporting location for trouble call assignments.
We will have two apprentice classes - one in late August/early September and one in early November. Initial training will be held in Berlin, CT.
