Overview

This position performs the field and office activities associated with creating and executing the PPL EU Regional Transmission Vegetation Management Maintenance Annual Work Plans. These activities include inspection of Rights of Way (ROW) to prescribe appropriate treatments based on vegetation conditions and securing permissions where necessary for the completion of Transmission Vegetation work scope. This position is responsible for performing annual foot patrols to ensure compliance with PPL EU’s Transmission Vegetation Management Program (TVMP), and FAC 003 standards. Work plan development shall be implemented by specifications, compliance standards, cost efficiency attainment, reliability standards, and customer service interface, which includes frequent direct contact with the public. This position reports to a Regional System Forester or Supervisor.

Responsibilities

1.Perform the work planning activities of the region(s) vegetation management program for both transmission planned maintenance work, LiDAR/ Hot Spot mitigations, capital projects, and storm response.

  1. Review existing easements and appropriately notify and or permission the prescribed work plan treatments including thorough documentation in PPL EU’s work management software.

  2. Responsible for ensuring work plan, and QA/QC are performed in accordance with all related specifications, policies, and procedures of the vegetation management program and PPL Electric Utilities. This also includes clear understanding and implementation of work standards in accordance with federal reliability standards.

  3. Serve as PPL Electric Utilities lead personnel on all customer directed inquiries regarding vegetation management clearing work. This includes negotiating with property owners (including federal, state, and local government) to balance customer satisfaction with scope completion and resolving customer concerns and complaints.

  4. Research, analyze and work with supervisor for opportunities, methods and procedures for vegetation management including tools, equipment, crew types and herbicides.

  5. Acts as the vegetation management lead within a given region for all related environmental issues or concerns pertaining to clearing and treatment activities including the management of invasive vegetation species where applicable.

  6. Responsible for facilitating the execution of all Transmission vegetation management activities within a given region, which include safety performance, meeting schedule timelines, achieving quality work scope completion while meeting cost targets.

8.Responsible for maintaining records demonstrating compliance with TVMP.

  1. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, or outside of your normal schedule.

Qualifications

  • A.A. - Forestry Science, Agricultural / Environmental degree, or B.S./B.A.S degree

  • 2 Years of experience in Utilities, Natural Resource / Environmental Management, Line Clearance, Maintenance, or Construction.

  • Demonstrated expertise/knowledge of energized and deenergized facilities; knowledge of training and clearances.

  • Demonstrated ability in prioritizing workload to maximize budget allotments, financial forecasting, workload forecasting, accounting, customer relations.

  • Currently possess or have the ability to obtain a PA pesticide license within 6 months of employment in this position.

  • Valid Driver's license.

  • Demonstrated ability to read maps, easements and other ROW documents

  • Demonstrated ability to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to identify tree species, growth rates, brush compatibility and identify Hazard Trees

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. /B.A.S Forestry / Environmental

  • Prior Utility Vegetation Management Experience

  • ISA Certified Arborist credential/ PA Herbicide Applicator License

  • Experience with work management software and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

  • Strong written, oral, presentation and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills
