Travel to perform regional maintenance activities at TVA plants and asset locations is required and is in the nature of this work.

The employee's official duty station will be assigned by TVA based on business needs.

Duties

This position will be home based at an assigned location but will require heavy travel to temporary work locations throughout the defined regional area.

The major portion of duties as Regional Steamfitter will be maintenance work, and periodical checking of general operating conditions of mechanical equipment. May be required to support TVA construction projects as well as general maintenance work.

A minor portion of time will involve performing general and emergency welding repairs and maintenance work at the plant. The work involves repairs to high and low-pressure steam, water, oil, and air piping; reseating and repairing valves; replacing gaskets; dismantling, repairing, and assembling of equipment; the removal and replacement of parts; and assisting in the repair of general plant equipment. The work may involve metal arc, tungsten-inert gas, oxygen-acetylene torch, or other types of welding in accordance with approved welding procedures.

May be assigned and will perform other work they are certified/qualified to perform.

Qualifications

Should have at least four years’ experience on mechanical work of similar nature and be capable of meeting approved welding standards. Should be familiar with the installation of piping and pipe stresses and must have the ability to read simple blueprints and be able to understand and follow safety procedures. Needs knowledge of lay out and fabrication of piping systems.

High school education or equivalent. Must be certified as possessing steamfitter craft journeyman level skills, including weld test UA 21/UA 41 or TVA certified equivalent. This certification is established through successful completion of a TVA-recognized, DOL-approved craft journeyman steamfitter apprenticeship program. Must maintain TVA required classroom or computer based training and certifications.

May be required to satisfactorily demonstrate their aptitude and ability to perform the job through a welding test, if applicable, prior to being selected.

A practical skills assessment will be administered that consists of weld tests. This assessment will require first attempt pass of Regional Maintenance proctored weld tests in SMAW and GTAW processes, in the 6G position, with heavy-wall carbon and stainless materials.

Must be able to work various schedules and overtime as needed.

Must meet the physical and medical requirements of the job.

Must perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and abide by all safety rules and regulatory requirements.

May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/essential job functions, as well as home site access requirements.

Supervision Received

The incumbent will be under the direction of a regional crew or site foreman and the indirect supervision by the regional crew or site first line supervisor at the home location or in the field.

This may differ depending on project scope.

Supervision Over Others

As assigned, the incumbent may direct the work of one or more apprentice steamfitters.
