Position Purpose:

Directs plant operations to ensure safety & regulatory compliance and reliable and efficient operation of the plant in accordance with all applicable technical specifications, TVA policies, programs and procedures. Accountable to ensure equipment is operated and maintained to reliably support system needs. Oversees the management of Capital and O&M budgets to ensure proper use of resources towards the best interests of TVA and their customers. Demonstrates strategic vision by developing three to five year site-specific plans for operation and maintenance of assets as needed to meet the generation requirements of the TVA system.

Job Dimensions:

Supervisory Responsibility —Supervises operations and maintenance managers, management specialists and 25 represented employees and contractor workforce as needed

Budget Responsibility —Up to $30M O&M and capital annually, depending upon scheduled activities for any particular year

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Accountable for the leadership of the plant personnel (includes but not limited to managing managers, multi-skill craft employees, OPEIU employees, and/or contractors) ensuring: safety adherence, environmental compliance, operational reliability and unit availability, maintenance coordination, troubleshooting assistance, scheduling & planning of current and future projects needs, budgeting responsibilities, project/outage execution, predictive maintenance oversight, implementing and managing work schedules, planning, issuing and tracking work assignments, and ensuring operational rounds are being completed and documented.

  • This position will be expected to lead, collaborate, interface and provide coordination among several TVA organizations including Facilities Management, Transmission, Coal and Gas Supply, Generation Services, Safety, and Environmental, etc. for all issues regarding either plant towards accomplishing the mission of the specific plant and goals. Foster collaboration and teamwork among peer plant sites as well as through Gas Operations and Power Operations.

  • This position will also be expected to initiate, lead, collaborate, interface and provide coordination to external organizations (OEM’s, third party vendors, etc.) including but not limited to long-term service agreements, control system philosophy & logic design, etc.

  • Manage and enhance the development of plant employees by broadening and improving skills and by developing a workforce that is flexible, diverse and adaptive to change. This would include evaluating and documenting employee performance as well as taking corrective action when performance behaviors are not within guidelines or expectations. It also includes developing and implementing effective training programs for all plant employees to enable the workforce to operate, maintain and make effective technical decisions.

  • Accountable for the successful execution of existing initiatives (i.e., the 10-year plan, maintenance basis optimization) as well as ensuring the successful implementation of new initiatives. Serves as the Facility Security Manager and/or On-scene Incident Commander.

  • Position will work days primarily, although evenings and/or weekends when required by plant operations. Will supervise a multi-skilled bargaining unit workforce.

  • Provide management and oversight of initial commissioning, startup activities, and transitions of new gas facilities.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education –B.S. degree in a technical field. Equivalent education, training, and experience considered in lieu of degree.

    Experience -Five (5) years experience in power plant maintenance, operations or engineering of which two (2) years are in a supervisory capacity. Combined Cycle Operations experience is preferred.

    Certification/License, etc. —Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities —Ability to interface with multiple customers and technical groups simultaneously. Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time. Demonstrated Leadership in a Bargaining Unit Environment; Excellent Communication and follow through skills; Demonstrated Ability to Plan / Implement Work; Good Judgment in Decision Making; Good Problem Solving Skills; Functions Well in Team Environment.; Demonstrated Ability to Plan / Implement Work.
