Summary

Controls the operation of a nuclear steam supply system, the turbine generator unit, associated equipment, and all auxiliary systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Duties are:

  1. Obtain and maintain any Federal, State or LocalLicense as required in a reasonable time.

  2. Operate the nuclear steam supply system and the turbine generator and the auxiliaries in compliance with the Technical Specifications, all established station operating instructions and procedures and facility license requirements.

  3. Perform the necessary calculations involved with reactor operation.

  4. Synchronize generators and regulate load, voltage, and frequency.

  5. Perform switching operations by remote control, as directed or required, to maintain continuity of service on auxiliary busses.

  6. Perform emergency operations to protect the general public and station personnel, safeguard station equipment, and maintain electric service.

  7. Receive Electric Dispatchers' orders and make reports of operating conditions.

  8. Make operational and surveillance tests of equipment as directed by the Technical Specifications and by operating and surveillance procedure.

  9. Issue tags for clearing equipment and instructions for making it ready for service, as directed by the Electric Dispatcher, Shift Manager, Control Room Supervisor or Work Control Center Supervisor, fill out tags removed from equipment.

  10. Maintain records of valve lineups, equipment status, and operating logs, as required.

  11. Report, immediately, any abnormal conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take proper corrective measures.

  12. Assist Nuclear Control Operators in the same Control Room, as required.

  13. During the shutdown of the unit, perform refueling operations including the transfer of fuel assemblies. Assist the maintenance force to the extent of their capabilities.

  14. Perform similar or less skilled work.

  15. Performs planning and scheduling functions of the Operations Department.

  16. Performs temporary rotational assignments such as lube planner, win team, retest coordinator, outage tagging and project support.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet the Company's "General Requirements"; must have all the qualifications of Equipment Operator and, in addition:

  • Must meet the NRC and ANSI power plant and operating experience required to seek a NRC license currently in effect.

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of established operating procedures, rules, instructions, and Technical Specifications pertaining to the duties to be performed.

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the layout and operation of the nuclear, mechanical, and electrical equipment in the station.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and instructions relating to the work to be performed.

  • Must know the full procedure for starting up and shutting down, nuclear steam supply tem, a turbine generator unit, associated equipment, and all auxiliary systems. Must be able to diagram and explain the operation of the major mechanical, electrical and nuclear control systems.

  • Must be able to explain the general operation of the turbine generator control system.

  • Must be capable of assuming the supervisory responsibilities related to the work to be performed.

  • Must be cooperative with all those contacted in this work and receive and transmit orders and instructions in a manner to command the confidence and respect of associates.

  • Must hold a State of New Jersey Steam Engineers License, Stationary, Third Class. Must demonstrate, through a testing program, the potential to obtain a Reactor Operator license and to perform successfully as a Nuclear Control Operator.

  • Must have successfully completed the Reactor Operator Fundamental and systems training, including the NRC administered exam.
