Job Summary
The primary purpose of this job family position is to plan, organize and direct field personnel engaged in the operation, maintenance, and construction of electric substations and ancillary equipment of the Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Electric Distribution System, the American Transmission Company (ATC) Electric Transmission System, the Wisconsin Public Service Power Generation’s Power Plant Fleet, in Northeast Wisconsin. This position supervises represented employees in various occupations who perform all construction and maintenance work within WPS substations.
This position will have a safety and training focus. The Substation and Transmission (S&T) group employs electrical professionals that are trained to perform the complex work located within substations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality training to experienced employees or trainees on electrical systems, safety protocols, and industry best practices. This position will work with our subject matter experts to design, develop, and implement training programs that enhance knowledge and skills, ensuring participants meet industry standards and safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities
Establishes goals and objectives for their assigned Maintenance and/or Construction group with respect to work to be performed, personnel qualifications and costs. Directs employees and makes decisions regarding work activities to accomplish these goals.
Provides leadership to their assigned Maintenance and/or Construction group by conducting operational meetings and interfacing with multiple entities both internal and external to WPS on operational, maintenance and design matters concerning electrical substation equipment and ancillary equipment.
Perform administrative functions of a first line supervisor including time sheet approval, coaching, counseling, administering discipline, performing employee reviews, etc.
Coach, lead and counsel substation field personnel in resolving work issues and interpersonal issues, and identifying growth opportunities. Develop employees in accordance with their respective progressions.
Curriculum Development: Design and update training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on exercises, ensuring alignment with current industry trends and compliance with regulatory standards.
Training Delivery: Provide both theoretical and practical instruction on substation equipment and electrical theory. The Supervisor is not expected to be the subject matter expert of all material but rather a facilitator of training.
Assessments and Evaluations: Conduct assessments to evaluate the progress and competency of trainees, providing constructive feedback to ensure continuous improvement
Compliance: This position is responsible for tracking and ensuring all compliance training requirements are up to date.
Safety Standards: Identifies and emphasized best safe work practices through: field safety observations, incident investigations, near miss unsafe conditions (NMUC) assessments etc.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, HSED, or GED
5 years’ experience in electric design, construction and maintenance or 3 years supervisory experience in a related operations environment, preferably in more than one functional and/or geographic area and with demonstrated success in leading teams, exhibiting strong customer focus and setting strategic direction.
Good working knowledge of union contracts and employee relationship building. A supervisor shall have the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, and contractors. Strong communication and organizational skills are a benefit.
Sound understanding of the theory, maintenance and operation of: power transformers, load tap changers, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, protection relaying and control systems, batteries, battery chargers, auxiliary AC systems, surge arresters, bus conductors, connections, disconnects, fuses, hydraulic and vacuum/ SF6 reclosers, SCADA & EMS. Any experience with any or all of these systems is a plus.
Demonstrate computer proficiency as required for the position.
Demonstrated competence in the electric substation field including a broad understanding of the electric utility industry. Specific understanding of NERC regulatory requirements is also a must. Candidates should have a sound overall knowledge of residential, commercial and industrial maintenance and construction methods and practices through work experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electric Technology or related discipline is a plus

Pay Range Minimum: $85,896.20
Pay Range Maximum: $148,170.62
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
