Summary
Engineer, Senior | Transmission Line Overhead Design- Primarily be focused on the structural and electrical (e.g. clearances) aspects of high and medium voltage transmission line design.
What your day would be like:
You are responsible for:
Leading projects while being accountable for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to a level of quality expected by the client.
Structural modeling of transmission line elements for load capacity and electrical clearance.
Performing and evaluating line inspections with recommendations to the customer.
Developing and reviewing foundation designs.
Preparing construction documents.
Coordination with local utility, municipality, government, and contractor representatives.
Providing guidance and coordinating work with entry-level engineers and technicians.
Leading and/or supporting training efforts for co-workers and clients.
Minimum Requirements
Engineer, Senior | Transmission Line Overhead Design
Bachelor of Science degree in an Civil Engineering / Engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution
PLUS eight (8) years working experience in Engineering relevant transmission line or general structural engineering experience.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications
Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
Experience in the energy industry or a consulting services environment.
Relevant experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-TOWER, and AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Experience using RISA-3D and/or STAAD for structural analysis and design
Functional understanding of AISC “Specification for Structural Steel Buildings”, ACI 318-14 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete”, and ASCE/SEI 7 “Minimum Design Loads for buildings and Other Structures”, ASCE/SEI 10 “Design of Latticed Steel Transmission Structures”, and ASCE/SEI 48 “Design of Steel Transmission Pole Structures”
Functional understanding of NESC, EIA-TIA, CSA, and GO95 Codes
Major Accountabilities
1) Develops and applies unique solutions and applications to a broad range of technical issues and problems (solutions that typically require original and creative approaches).
2) Prepares complex engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications.
3) Integrates the many interrelated elements of complex projects that are broad in scope, require considerations not previously encountered and requires interpretation and/or modification to guidelines.
4) Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget and schedule.
5) Provides technical guidance, leadership and support to less experienced engineers.
6) Assists the organization in problem solving, as needed, by critically challenging assumptions and decisions to ensure the most optimal solutions and strategies are implemented.
7) Leverages industry and organization resources to resolve key technical issues.
8) May plan and coordinate programs and large-scale engineering projects or multiple medium-scale projects while acting as a technical specialist for a specific engineering field.
9) Monitors projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and /or reviews design and documentation of complex projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules and any regulatory requirements.
10) May research new developments and technology and make recommendations to management on their feasibility for Company operations.

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:
APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
