Brief Position Description

The Physical Security Engineer designs, deploys and maintains physical security systems such as access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, and other security systems as required to protect Entergy’s personnel, property and assets and to ensure that complies with NERC CIP regulatory requirements. Scope of the role includes corporate offices, field offices, substations, non-nuclear power generation sites, control centers and data centers. The Engineer will assist in maintaining a world-class, premiere physical security program that provides employees with a seamless experience while keeping them and our assets secure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates in the development and execution of strategy, roadmap and delivery plans for Physical Security technology

  • Participates in the product evaluation and selection process

  • Ensures alignment to and the enforcement of documented hardware standards

  • Provides assurance that approved physical security system designs are maintained for assigned sites

  • Ensures quality control is maintained throughout project implementation

  • Performs functional testing and documentation of results to ensure equipment remains compliant

  • Enforcement of processes and procedures to implement, manage and retire physical security systems

  • Enforcement of processes and procedures for the appropriate use of physical access controls

  • Tier 3 engineer support for contractors and other tier 2 support groups

  • Day-to-day operations and maintenance of physical security systems and components

  • Support of NERC CIP audits, investigations or other physical security incidents as required

Experience needed

Sec Engineer III:

  • Three or more years of enterprise experience with physical security systems in a distributed environment

  • Broad experience with security operations and incident response (monitoring, log gathering, event correlation, configuration, databases, etc.)

  • At least one year of hands-on experience managing physical security systems and technologies such as video monitoring and recording systems, badge control systems, ingress/egress control points or other physical perimeter monitoring systems

  • Experience coordinating with outsourced service providers

  • Ability to work independently as part of a larger team with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Experience working in partnership with colleagues and other business units outside of InfoSec

Sec Engineer, Sr:

  • Five or more years of enterprise experience with physical security systems in a distributed environment

  • Broad experience with security operations and incident response (monitoring, log gathering, event correlation, configuration, databases, etc.)

  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience managing physical security systems and technologies such as video monitoring and recording systems, badge control systems, ingress/egress control points or other physical perimeter monitoring systems

  • Experience working with and leading outsourced teams

  • Ability to work independently as part of a larger team with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Experience working in partnership with colleagues and other business units outside of InfoSec

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Working understanding of physical security systems concepts and technologies required

  • Experience working in a regulated environment is a plus with experience working under NERC CIP regulatory requirements preferred

  • Understanding of tools and technologies for physical security such as card access, video surveillance, cameras, motion/intrusion detection, etc.

  • Understanding of security operations, access management, intrusion detection, and physical security

  • Understanding of security, risk, and control frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001 and 27002, SANS-CAG, NIST, FISMA, COBIT, COSO and ITIL

  • Knowledge of current IT Security trends and evolutions in physical security

  • Thorough understanding of IP networks, VLANs and wireless communications used in physical security applications

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Available to travel, may be extensive at times based on business needs or in response to storms

  • Capable of organizing work demands and meeting deadlines

  • Excellent work ethic requiring minimum direct management of work product

Education required

Associate degree in STEM program, a related discipline or work experience applicable to the role

Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position

Security Certifications (PSP, CPP, CISSP, CISM, Sec+, CEH) a plus

Any specifically applicable vendor certifications are a plus or willingness to earn at least one within the first year of employment as part of individual development if not already certified

WORKING CONDITIONS

As a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties. This position requires travel throughout the Entergy territory in support of our systems.
