Job Summary

*There are two positions which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities

This position will provide technical and project leadership, to the high voltage underground design team. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the electric transmission line system, design standards, and the project management process. Participate on project management teams and support the SCC application process by providing written and verbal testimony. Provide underground transmission line scoping, estimating, and detailed designs for capital projects. Manage specific engineering teams to complete milestones in accordance with project timelines. Designs are to apply our engineering standards and address reliability and constructability concerns while providing cost effective solutions. Interaction with the public at open houses and workshops will be required. This position is also responsible for development of underground engineering standards and required to support operations, maintenance, and construction. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Level Indicator in this job posting:

Engineer II: Career Level-fully competent in a job series.This role is fully competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter. Second level position in the engineering series provides engineering support in designated company area, or specific engineering discipline.

Engineer III: Senior Level-highest proficiency level in series. This role is the top progression level position in the engineer series. Includes senior to technical expert engineers, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

*Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A master’s degree can count as one year experience

Engineer II: 3+ years directly related experience, background and experiences applied to electric transmission lines with knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes and concepts

Engineer III: 5+ years directly related experience, background and experiences applied to electric transmission lines with knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes and concepts

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Experience with underground transmission lines is preferred.

  • Provides technical consultation to other engineers and management

  • Strong technical and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of the transmission line business with previous participation with external industry groups

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and develop relationships with other engineers, project managers, consultants, lawyers and other internal groups such as planning, construction, substation engineering, real estate, permitting and route selection, rights of way administration and transmission operations and maintenance

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as well as independently seeking knowledge and information

  • Ability to independently plan and organize work assignments

  • Ability to ensure the quality of the engineering designs is of the highest standard

  • Demonstrated the ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)

  • Strong planning and project management skills

  • Ability to make effective business decisions based on analysis and abstract thinking

  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices

*The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3; E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined (above/below)

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required (see Engineering criteria below)

  • Electrical or Mechanical discipline preferred, Civil or Nuclear is acceptable

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series - - the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
