Job Summary

This position is located at the Dominion Energy Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA. Glen Allen is a suburb of Richmond VA.

Provide electrical design related services and engineering support for electrical equipment and engineering within the Power Generation Engineering group. This group is responsible for providing engineering/technical support to Dominion Energy’s Power Generation Fossil & Renewable fuels and Hydropower generating stations. Designer services and support include the preparation and review of CAD and/or manual detailed electrical engineering drawings and related computer documents such as, but not limited to, Operational One-Line diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Instrument Loop Diagrams and physical drawings such as cable, conduit, underground and raceway plans. Drawings related to outage or station maintenance support, involving retrofit and replacement, to new complex engineering construction project packages. Generate equipment data and Functional Location Number spreadsheets, schedules, studies, and estimate type documents. This position requires a degree of individual self-supervisory and teamwork skills to execute assignments and task and to perform other duties as required or requested.

  • General electrical design support for the Power Generation generating stations.

  • Preparation and review of various electrical drawings and documents in support of various power station engineering projects – either capital improvement projects or for general operation and maintenance support.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of electrical discipline drawing and design standards for Power Generation Engineering.

  • Perform site investigations and analysis for new and existing equipment location, cable/conduit routings - modifications with field verifications of dimensions and elevations as required.

  • Provide construction support as required.

  • Review and comment on Outsourced Engineering or Vendor Engineering drawing submittals as required.

  • Maintain electrical discipline drawings and various document records utilizing ProjectWise file management system.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 5-8 years knowledge of electrical engineering design and drafting principles.

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and industry standards.

  • Knowledge of relevant company design and operating standards.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with various electrical design software packages.

  • Ability to plan and schedule work independently; to size, lay out, and detail electrical equipment and components to complete drawings for routine and/or more complex systems; and to research and implement new applications within the PGE CAD system.

  • Very strong (3-5 years) MicroStation V8i & Bentley Descartes V8i skills with AutoCAD 2013 skills.

  • Bentley Projectwise experience - preferred

  • Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry required to perform calculations as required.

  • Excellent communication & writing skills.

  • Well-developed and effective interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.

  • Willing to travel to fleet Generation Stations by various means up to 20%.

Education Requirements

  • Associate Electrical Engineering Technology Degree or equivalent years in College majoring in either Electrical Engineering/Engineering Technology, preferred. (Demonstrated related experience may be substituted for preferred education).

  • Require 5-8 years of relative experience in various Power plants or a similar industrial engineering/design environment.
