Purpose

The role of Lead Commercial Contract Manager, sits within the Global WTG Supply Contracts Team of the Contracts and Turbines Department and focuses on providing technical-commercial support and advice to all Iberdrola Renewables Business Units (Offshore, UK, US, Iberia & International), with regards to the contractual and technical-commercial issues during the negotiation and management of wind turbine (WTG) supply contracts TSA (Turbine Supply Agreements) & SMA (Service & Maintenance Agreements) with suppliers.

As Lead Commercial Contract Manager, you shall lead the local UK contract negotiations working within a wider global team of engineers and be responsible for managing the technical and commercial assessment, risk identification, validation, selection and contract negotiation of the WTG technology and models. You will have the objective of selecting the most reliable, efficient and technically suitable and commercially preferable option for each of the acquisition and tender processes launched by the Business Units.

You will also be responsible for defining and continually improving the global technical-commercial guidelines and requirements to be followed, negotiated and then adhered to by the WTG suppliers, to ensure clear interaction and communication with all Business Units, particularly in the UK (onshore and offshore), where the individual will work to develop and maintain an effective relationship between the UK Business team responsible for the WTG acquisitions and the Global Technical Services team

For every UK onshore project, you will lead the entire negotiation, draw up, redraft and interpret WTG supply agreements in due time and form, including all associated guarantees, as well as coordinate with and support other departments (Legal Services, O&M, Wind Resources, Promotions, Development, Engineering, Construction, Procurement and Tax), securing the optimum requirements specific to the circumstances of the project.

For every offshore project assigned, you will lead and manage negotiations regarding all contractual items which are under the responsibility of the Contracts and Turbines team during the negotiation of TSAs and SMAs and throughout the project’s life cycle (promotion, construction and operation), working with the offshore team to negotiate supply and service agreements alongside various departments and divisions (Legal Services, Supply Chain, Procurement and Offshore).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, co-ordination and management of necessary tendering processes in accordance with company procedures and GTS responsibilities and functions, including defining, understanding, aligning and securing the requirements and specifics of each project in the drawing up of the wind turbine agreements, including all associated guarantees, throughout the various stages of a project.

  • Lead the review and evaluation of the technical and commercial proposals submitted by the wind turbine suppliers under those acquisition and tendering processes launched by the Business Units in accordance with GTS responsibilities and functions.

  • Lead negotiations and provide contractual support to Business Units (especially UK Business Unit), Offshore Division and Project Teams when negotiating TSAs and SMAs throughout the various stages of a project

  • Develop technical warranties and commercial requirements for wind turbine supply agreements (Employer´s Requirements) and inputs for the rest of documents in the TSA

  • Lead the development, negotiation and implementation of contractual mitigations in order to minimise the impact of technical risks and issues identified for the wind turbine models offered. This will involve submitting a proposal and developing and establishing technical/contractual clauses to minimise their impact on a project.

  • Develop and implement applicable standardised guarantees and contractual clauses within the Iberdrola Group according to each project’s specifications.

  • Ensure that all technical and commercial recommendations are documented and sufficient due diligence exists to support technical / commercial decisions (whether internal or external).

  • Provide WTG contract advice and support to project managers during the tendering, development phases and specific on-demand requested support in accordance with GTS responsibilities and functions during execution phases of project implementation.

  • Provide WTG contract advice and support to project managers for management of contracts, contract renegotiations, assessment of variations & claims and contract evaluation.

  • Ensure that all contract and commercial management requirements are delivered in a compliant manner with due regard to technical, and quality objectives.

  • Lead and coordinate contractual analyses and assessments of wind turbine projects that may be acquired (e.g. due diligence), as well as proposing and establishing alternatives to pre-assessed contractual provisions.

  • Develop and implement an effective coordination and communication framework between Acquisition Business Teams and Global Technical Services Team.

  • Develop assessment tools to support commercial & technical evaluation of Tenders, working closely with Procurement.

  • Develop effective relationships with wind turbine suppliers

Skills and Requirements

  • Experience negotiating and managing contracts with experience preferably working with contracts on international construction projects, negotiating and managing international contracts (FIDIC) and in preparing and settling claims.

  • Background in mechanical and rotating equipment in a wind turbine environment and experience in the development, delivery and operation of wind power generation projects.

  • Competences will preferably have been gained in the wind industry, gaining a broad based technical background while working within a wider team of procurement, commercial, supply chain & contract management specialists.

  • Experience in due diligence and contract/procurement management.

  • Lead and supervise all commercial aspects in tendering and contracting phase.

  • Strong team player, with the ability to influence over a wide network of co-worker relationships.

  • Delivery focus with the ability to balance conflicting requirements, meet tight deadlines and produce concise reporting

  • Pro-active and diligent approach to work activities with ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively.

  • Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation and to deal with third parties, project teams and consultants.

  • Eye for detail

  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT

  • Knowledge of FIDIC and LOGIC contracts would be a distinctive advantage

  • Experience in developing and maintaining company wind turbine standards for commercial purchase. Must have a detailed understanding of UK turbine specifications.

To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate as minimum:

  • Experience in working within multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Understanding of Wind Turbine Technologies.

  • Understanding of Renewable Project Development, Construction and Operational activities.

  • Extensive negotiating experience, preferably managing international contracts within the wind industry.

What we offer

This is a Permanent contract. Salary for this role will be from £58,160 per annum. Other benefits for this role include a performance related bonus up to 20% and Family cover private health care and a perk car allowance of £450 per annum.
