Position Purpose If you're in good academic standing and are a motivated student, the Operations Internship offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at an LG&E’s power generating station. This position will provide challenging projects, networking opportunities, and a chance to learn from experienced electric utility professionals. As an Operations Intern you will perform assigned duties in connection with the operation and routine maintenance of turbines, boilers, generators, auxiliary equipment, HVAC, and other equipment pertinent to plant operations.

Required Education & Experience Candidate must be currently enrolled and pursuing technical degree in industrial electricity, electronics, applied process technology or related field. Candidate must maintain 2.5 GPA in the degree program Requires excellent computer skills with knowledge and experience using Excel. Above average interpersonal written/oral communication skills required. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze problems is important. Must be observant and able to learn and understand the relationship between plant equipment and data to be processed for reports.

Job Description Must be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition, reporting to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. Actively participate and successfully complete assigned training activities and requirements. Perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment. Check operation of pulverizers, coal feeders, scales, sumps, hotwells, heater drains, air compressors, heater levels, filters, and conveying equipment. Make routine inspections on and around assigned equipment, and report any irregularities to the unit operator. Take readings and record same: Change charts on recording meters and instruments as directed. Assist employees in carrying out work assignments. Keep chemical regenerate tanks and other chemical tanks and/or storage bins at proper operating levels. Check operation of motors, bearings, hydraulic couplings on draft fans, and feed pumps. Comply with all safety rules related to the position and plant operations. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Work Conditions Plant environment. Position requires ability to work in adverse climate conditions and physical nature of work may require climbing in and out of mills, boilers and walking on grated sidewalks up to 550 feet in the air.

Physical Effort Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches and from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, various bags of chemicals; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis; Perform hand manipulations extended near floor level for extended periods of time on a regular basis
