Responsibilities

The Gas Laborer/Groundman is responsible for preparing and cleaning construction sites by removing debris and possible hazards. Duties may include itemizing and loading required building materials for daily projects, operating equipment, and supporting craft workers with their duties. This position supports the gas utility team and works with personnel within various departments.

Job Summary/R esponsibilities

  • Restock trucks with supplies ensuring crews have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.

  • Distribute materials at the job site in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Clean and prepare the construction site for work by removing debris and possible hazards.

  • Assist the tradesmen in completing their skilled tasks safely and efficiently. Identify utilities and potential hazards; protect dig crews from utility hits and assist in Manually digging.

  • Operate construction and jobsite equipment safely; equipment includes rubber-tired backhoe, skid steer loader, directional drill, trencher, and mini excavators.

  • Clean up and maintain equipment.

  • Perform job site restoration once essential tasks are complete.

  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma, or equivalent

  • 1 year of experience in utilities or construction.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.

  • Precise hand-eye coordination.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to operate equipment.

  • Must possess situational awareness of surroundings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience.

  • Experience in gas line construction and/or gas utility industries.

  • OSHA Safety training.

  • A CDL Class A license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
