Part Time- Temporary Facility Attendant

The City of Gainesville's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department is now hiring for a Part Time- Temporary Facility Attendant. This position is temporary, entry level cashiering, maintenance, janitorial and monitoring work facilitating events and programs involving the use and care of the City's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) facilities and equipment

Tasks to be performed may include but not be limited to: performing general janitorial and attendant work at assigned buildings, facilities and grounds, including, but not limited to, set-up before events and activities, clean-up after events and activities, and cleaning restrooms, concessions areas and storage rooms; monitoring and minor maintenance of equipment, materials and facilities; reporting any damaged and unsafe equipment or required maintenance or materials such as cleaning supplies to the supervisor or his/her designee; moving and lifting heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.

To be considered for this position you must:

  • Be at least 15 years of age at time of appointment

  • Have six (6) months of cashiering, maintenance or facility operation work that includes public contact or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Ability to pass Children and Family Services background check upon hire and as requested.

  • American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in Adult, Child and Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid certification which is required upon hire.

Job Description

SUMMARY

This is temporary, entry level cashiering, maintenance, janitorial and monitoring work facilitating events and programs involving the use and care of the City's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) facilities and equipment.

Positions allocated to this class report to a designated supervisor and works under close supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its emphasis on janitorial services, maintenance and monitoring responsibilities of a temporary nature.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Depending on area of assignment:

Performs general janitorial and attendant work at assigned buildings, facilities and grounds, including, but not limited to, set-up before events and activities, clean-up after events and activities, and cleaning restrooms, concessions areas and storage rooms.

Responsible for monitoring and for the minor maintenance of equipment, materials and facilities; reports any damaged and unsafe equipment or required maintenance or materials such as cleaning supplies to the supervisor or his/her designee.

Moves and lifts heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.

Opens and closes facilities according to schedule and procedures and notifies appropriate authorities in event of emergency.

Monitors activities, special events and programs at PRCA facilities and assists as needed. Acts as the City's representative during rentals of PRCA facilities by outside agencies.

Enforces safety and operating procedures including compliance with health, safety and building codes; enforces by informing general public participants.

Renders only minor first aid in the case of an injury and reports all injuries to the supervisor or his/her designee. Completes accident/incident reports as required by policy.

Collects entrance or equipment rental fees, money for food and beverages, green fees and cart fees from customers; makes correct change and issues receipts.

Keeps accurate account of daily attendance and all daily revenue collected; balances cash with daily closing reports.

Deals with inquiries or complaints in diplomatic and respectful manner.

Answers telephone and provides public with pertinent information about facility operations.

Retrieves range balls and supplies balls to golfers.

Acts as a "starter" and/or "ranger" for golf course.

Organizes golfers according to tee times to ensure smooth and timely play.

Makes necessary announcements on the public address system.

Prevents unauthorized persons from entering the facility.

Responsible for the care of the children/adults in the recreation programs they are assigned to.

Attends work on continuous and regular basis.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

May perform leadworker duties with contracted workers and temporary employees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 15 years of age at time of appointment with six (6) months of cashiering, maintenance or facility operation work that includes public contact, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Ability to pass Children and Family Services background check upon hire and as requested.

Depending on area of assignment, may be required to take a pre-employment written test.

CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES

Licenses

Depending on area of assignment, may require a Valid Florida Driver license upon appointment.

Certifications

American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in Adult, Child and Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid is required upon hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic knowledge of general janitorial and maintenance tasks.

Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying ages and abilities, both orally and in writing.

Ability to provide individual and group skilled instruction in varied recreational activities.

Ability to read and understand work schedules.

Ability to effectively work with and to secure the confidence and cooperation of participants, the general public, and other employees in recreational activities.

Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate the work of contract and temporary employees in recreational activities.

Knowledge of the methods of handling, receipting and maintaining records of moneys received.

Knowledge of equipment used in processing cash.

Ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetical calculations.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Ability to keep simple records.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess certain physical abilities and be able to withstand work related environmental conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform all essential job functions, including the ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50 pounds without assistance.

Must conform to grooming and dress codes (uniforms furnished).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work requires the ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals, including but not limited to: household cleaning and maintenance chemicals.

While performing the duties of this Job, work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.

May be required to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Days off are at the discretion of the designated Supervisor.

Depending on area of assignment, may be required to attend in-service trainings or other trainings as scheduled by the designated Supervisor.
