On-the-Job (OJT) Coach

INTRODUCTION

To support and promote the effort to modernize operations and ensure continued focus on the transformation of training, technology and processes within an ongoing learning environment, the OJT Coach role will focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing field employees and providing support and feedback to employees and leadership.

The OJT Coach will develop employees through hands-on training and knowledge transfer to ensure they are successful in their roles, are properly trained and are able to execute work efficiently, safely and in compliance with all federal, state, local and company requirements.

An OJT Coach will drive operational excellence through continuous improvement by building partnerships with Operations leadership/management teams and completing needs assessments to ensure assigned employees are properly applying knowledge and skills acquired thru successful training and development. Must be able to respond to emergency orders when and if necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

OJT Coach 1:

  • Participate in on the job coaching events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas and distribution operation and maintenance activities.

  • Integrate classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, with a focus on (OJT) events that maximize student learning

  • Coach learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees

  • Support the development of employees towards masterly level of job positions by monitoring progressing through the training process.

  • Assist support services to field operations, construction, corrosion, and support operations

  • Assist the coordination, delivery, and facilitation of training programs as needed

  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers

  • Performs duties under close supervision

OJT Coach 2 (Includes OJT Coach 1 duties plus):

  • Provide learning events through coaching that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas, and distribution operation and maintenance activities.

  • Integrate classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, with a focus on (OJT) events that maximize student learning

  • Implement/coach learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees

  • Identify/react to learning opportunities, while developing employees towards masterly level of job positions

  • May be required to document activities that may result in disciplinary measures with trainees

  • Responsible for giving work direction to trainees

  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to coaching

  • Provide support services to field operations, construction, corrosion, and support operations

  • Collaborate with operations management to identify training needs and deliver coaching to ensure compliance

  • Identify needs and participate with Gas Standard reviews within operations

  • Research current technology and related training/coaching techniques by reviewing periodicals, journals, attending seminars, etc.

  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers

OJT Coach 3 (Includes OJT Coach 2 duties plus):

  • Lead learning/coaching events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on natural gas, and distribution operation and maintenance activities.

  • Directs coaching, hands on practice and simulation, with a focus on (OJT) events that maximize student learning

  • Implement/coach learning initiatives that provide practical in field experience for employees

  • Identify/react to learning opportunities, while developing employees towards masterly level of job positions

  • May be required document activities that may lead to disciplinary measures with students

  • Responsible for giving work direction to trainees through coaching

  • Subject matter expert for curriculum development

  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to coaching

  • Provide support services to field operations, construction, corrosion, and support operations

  • Collaborate with operations management to identify training needs and deliver programs to ensure compliance

  • Identify needs and participate with Gas Standard reviews within operations

  • Develop working relationships with front line leaders

  • Research current technology and related training/coaching techniques by reviewing periodicals, journals, governmental regulations, attending seminars, etc.

  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers

  • Monitors energy industry trends, analyzes potential impacts, and recommends strategic approaches

Senior OJT Coach (includes OJT Coach 3 duties plus)

  • Manage classroom training if needed, hands-on practice and simulation to maximize student learning

  • Identify learning opportunities, while developing employees towards mastery level of job positions

  • Conduct skill evaluations for OJT coach 1, 2 & 3 positions

  • Mentor Coaches and assist them in their development

  • Represent the OJT team, by delivering presentations at industry sponsored events

  • Lead strategic discussion with key business partners regarding annual training/coaching work plan

  • Subject matter expert to assist with curriculum development and gas standards reviews and updates

  • Advises and counsels students on performance and behavior through effective coaching

  • Lead investigations in new employee performance issues by providing accurate documentation and recommendations for disciplinary actions

  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to training

  • Develop working relationships with front line leaders

  • Research and make recommendations on current technology and related training/coaching techniques, by reviewing periodicals, journals, governmental regulations, attending seminars, etc.

  • Promote a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of your co-workers

  • Testifies in Arbitrations, depositions, and court cases as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

OJT Coach 1:

  • 1+ years of experience in natural gas industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel

  • B.A. or B.S. and/or other technical related certifications preferred

  • Experience delivering effective coaching techniques and assisting in ongoing training programs

  • Familiarity with State/Federal gas pipeline regulations

  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Estimated travel up to 20%

OJT Coach 2:

  • 3+ years of experience in natural gas and/or background in training/coaching within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel

  • B.A. or B.S. and/or other technical related certifications preferred

  • Knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the training process

  • Understanding of State/Federal gas pipeline regulations

  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills

  • Working knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Estimated travel up to 20%

OJT Coach 3:

  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel

  • B.A. or B.S. and/or other technical related certifications preferred

  • Extensive experience in delivering effective training/coaching & evaluation programs

  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the programs assigned to be used within the OJT process

  • Previous experience as a facilitator for various size groups

  • Working knowledge of State/Federal gas pipeline regulations

  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills

  • Advanced knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Estimated travel up to 20%

Senior OJT Coach:

  • 9+ years of experience in natural gas industry and/or background in training within a related utility, skilled trades, emergency response community, or in training military personnel

  • B.A. or B.S. and/or other technical related certifications preferred

  • Extensive experience in delivering effective training/coaching to multiple levels of the organization

  • Expert understanding of adult learning methods

  • Demonstrated mastery of competencies for the Senior OJT coach level position

  • Excellent facilitation skills for various size groups

  • Subject matter expert for technical expertise in related discipline

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and leverage relationships within and across work groups to achieve results

  • Advanced understanding of State/Federal gas pipeline regulations

  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)

  • Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement (where applicable)

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Estimated travel up to 20%

The successful candidate will be considered for one of the four levels listed below based off of experience.

SALARY INFORMATION

Salary Range:

  • OJT Coach 1: $67,900 - $101,900 USD Annual

  • OJT Coach 2: $79,800.00 - $119,600.00 USD Annual

  • OJT Coach 3: $93,800.00 - $140,700.00 USD Annual

  • Senior OJT Coach: $93,800.00 - $140,700.00 USD Annual
