Summary

As a Manager of Distribution Engineering Support- Underground and Network, you will oversee Distribution Engineering Support engineers, develop and implement training programs for Oncor employees, and provide technical expertise and support to Oncor Distribution workgroups through a group of employees and contractors with expertise in distribution system design, construction, operations and maintenance processes and practices. Additionally, this position supports all technical analysis and support generally for distribution engineering and operations.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent:

  • Leads the development, review and communication of engineering and construction standards and material and equipment specifications, to support the safe and reliable operation of the Oncor Distribution System.

  • Leads the creation and development of standards and practices to support effective integration of new technologies into the Distribution system.

  • Partners with departments across the Company to evaluate new materials, products and applications through pilot projects.

  • Develops and implements technical training programs for employees. Provides for employee development through professional training, cross training within the Company, and continually seeks out opportunities to allow employees to broaden their experience.

  • Provides engineering support to Distribution Operations.

  • Leads root cause analysis efforts to evaluate failures and leverages information to optimize equipment selection and specifications.

  • Provides for an engineering environment that is state of the art by: providing technical training through formal courses, industry conferences and vendor briefings; reviewing processes for improvement; automating labor intensive tasks, and providing for software and computer tools that improve the productivity and quality of the staff.

  • Must continuously monitor and stay abreast of engineering and regulatory requirements, standards, and processes to design optimum facilities; this requires participation in industry standards organizations.

  • Provide support to legal and regulatory groups and represent the Company’s interest in these matters.

  • Leads power quality analysis and operation support for harmonics and other power quality issues.

  • Manages relationships and partners with Engineering Professors to evaluate emerging technologies.

Education, Experience, & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree or Bachelor of Engineering Technology is required.

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Relevant experience includes engineering design, planning, construction, operations, or maintenance of electric power systems.

Experience

  • Applicants that are Registered Professional Engineers are encouraged to apply.

  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership characteristics.

Skills

  • Proficient in the use of relevant software including Advanced Enterprise Geographic Information System, Financial Integration Management, Outage Management System, and Microsoft Suite preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience in distribution system construction, operations, and maintenance practices.

  • Knowledge of codes, regulations, and requirements applicable to distribution system design and construction.

  • Must be flexible, have organizational skills, and multi-task skills to handle diverse types of work.

  • Must effectively work across disciplines and functions to achieve common goals and business objectives.

  • Excellent communication and team-building skills for effective relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Capable of working with people of divergent backgrounds.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex subject matter and company issues to vendor and Oncor employees.

Measures of Success

  • Technical development of direct reports measured by increased project complexity, responsibility, and independence.

  • Development and maintenance of strong collaborative relationships across Oncor, within the electric power industry and with key customers and suppliers.

  • Completes assignments on-time and within budget.
