Department Overview

The Materials and Distribution Operations Department is responsible for the management of warehouse operations and distribution for goods and services. We provide materials services that are valued by our company partners while continuing to focus on safety, customer satisfaction and cost management; approximately $150M of inventory. Warehouse Operations is responsible for the management of three materials distribution centers, the Port of Stockton Pipe Yard, Modesto pipe, valve, and fitting facility, and the oversight of our third party (S&S) Stockton pipe facility.

Position Summary

You will be responsible for overseeing PG&E’s Warehouse Operations and Materials activities consisting of Inbound, Outbound, Internal, and Transportation functions. You will manage assigned operations to meet or exceed client requirements while controlling costs, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and actively manages operation(s) in accordance with PG&E’s corporate values. You will also safeguard company assets and ensure that all tasks are performed safely and responsibly.

The hours of the position are 3:30 p.m. to 12 midnight, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Warehouse Operations: Manage facilities, personnel, equipment, and inventories to ensure that client requirements are met or exceeded and that budgetary targets are achieved. Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained in safe conditions and that all employees work safely. Analyze processes to identify opportunities for improvements and develop/implement corrective action plans. Actively work to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and suppliers. Recommend capital expenditures and provide input into budgeting process

  • Process Improvement: Establish, document, and track performance metrics, including identifying process improvement opportunities. Determine ways to improve processes and continue cost savings within Materials Operations. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify the reasons for failures and implements corrective actions to prevent recurrences.

  • Relationship Building: Partner with internal clients on issue resolution. Partner and collaborate with internal clients and suppliers to execute integrated demand/supply plans. Partner with internal clients and other business partners on issue resolution. Work closely with Purchasing and internal clients on business relationships with vendors. Develop and communicate business plans and strategies to all stakeholders (clients, employees & other).

  • Safety: Take personal responsibility to maintain a safe work environment by providing assistance and encouraging others to act safely. Integrate safety into work processes and measure results. Recognize and appropriately reward work group for achieving results. Communicate and train employees for Facility Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP) and Spill Prevention Counter Containment (SPCC). Thoroughly investigate accidents and analyze near misses and communicate findings. Actively participate on Safety Team. Proactively communicate safety policies. Support enterprise-wide efforts during emergency situations (i.e. storms, natural disasters, etc.), including working with warehouse distribution and suppliers on expediting materials.

  • Technical & Financial: Manage and monitor budget process. Operate within PCC budget by implementing efficiencies to achieve target reductions. Ensure facility is in compliance with SOX-404 and ORM regulations. Work with the Business Processes & Quality Assurance group in creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and adequate internal controls. Work with the Business Processes & Quality Assurance group to ensure compliance with all external and internal financial, legal and environmental requirements. Meet cost and schedule commitments. Establish, document, and track performance metrics, including identifying corrective action plans to meet departmental goals. Provide regular status updates to senior management and other reporting groups.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 4 years of supply chain experience such as in warehousing, planning, purchasing, or inventory management and/or as a supervisor in any industry

Desired:

  • Experience in a position responsible for directing employees such as a Drivers, Lead Materials Handlers, and Materials Handlers.

  • Experience working in a union environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain management, business, or other related field

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

  • Knowledge of ERP systems (Preferred: SAP)

  • Knowledge of process improvement disciplines (TQM, Lean, LSS)

  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
