Position Summary

The Legal Internship at South Jersey Industries offers the opportunity for a law student to gain valuable direct exposure to legal matters that arise in an in-house setting. This internship will provide hands-on experience with important, cutting-edge legal issues related to various areas of the law. The Legal Intern will collaborate with other departments within the Office of General Counsel including Corporate Secretary and Compliance.

As part of the comprehensive internship program, interns will participate in events which help them build a strong network within the SJI community and with fellow interns. Interns enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment throughout this 11-week summer program. The Ignite Internship Program also offers participants mentorship, educational seminars, volunteer opportunities, and visibility within the organization.

Essential Functions:

• Support attorneys, paralegals, and outside counsel on legal matters covering corporate law, governance, litigation, employment and labor law, utility and construction, and mergers and acquisitions

• Conduct legal research and analysis in areas relevant to the company’s business operations and Board of Directors

• Assist with contracts administration and maintaining general document workflow; assist with litigation discovery

• Prepare, review, and revise internal company policies with key business stakeholders

• Collaborate to prepare a cross-functional project with the opportunity to present to the SJI Executive Leadership Team

• Regular meetings with assigned mentor and various organizational leaders to discuss goals and professional development

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment

• Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner

• Good judgment and effective communication skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

• Availability to work a hybrid schedule based out of our Folsom, NJ, office Monday through Friday during daytime business hours

Required Background:

• Rising Third Year (3L) Law School Student, with a graduation date of Spring 2025 or later

Preferred Background:

• Prior legal internship experience in an in-house or corporate setting
