Description
Otter Tail Power Company has openings for temporary, full-time, summer intern positions for students pursuing GIS, land-related, or document management degree. Strong map reading skills and good understanding of property legal descriptions required to recognize, enter, and verify data in Sequel DB. Work includes entering meta data for scanned property, permits, and other agreements documents, confirming correct OCR, and some document scanning. Duties also include new data entry and verification for municipal developments and plats. Review of progress in GIS viewer to ensure meta data meets company’s goals. Internship is from May 2023 through August or September 2023.
The Land Rights and Survey Data Migration Summer Intern will assist with the migration of meta data currently stored in Otter Tail Power Company’s mainframe IDMS system to a SQL database that is our data repository for our GIS Land Rights map viewer. The Intern is accountable for scanning original-signature documents, confirming a match to migrated metadata and verifying the accuracy of that data, as well as inputting additional metadata to the database according to company guidelines.
Specifically, the Intern will:
Identify and enter meta data from scanned documents into Sequel DB.
Match existing meta data to previously scanned document and review for accuracy.
Import scanned documents into Documentum file management system according to company naming convention to create a link to the unique identifying field in the GIS database.
Utilize test criteria and methods to ensure the data appears as it should in our GIS system.
Verify established sort methods for use of metadata in Excel to enable users to:
Pull all land rights for a specific line.
Pull all permits for a specific line.
Create reports for other types of filters/sorts.
Document how this function can be used by OTP personnel.
Hold meetings with OTP personnel to ensure metadata meets company’s goals.
Provide weekly progress reports to Land Rights Supervisor.
