Company Overview

Northern Pipe Products is a local based manufacturer of high quality, rigid PVC plastic pipe. We were established in 1979 and operate on a 24/7 basis producing products ranging in size from 3/4" thru 24" diameters. Our pipe is used in municipal water, rural water, wastewater, and storm drainage systems in the northern, midwestern, and western regions of the United States as well as Canada.

We are currently seeking an experienced, high energy, full time electrical controls technician. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a 2-year degree in industrial electrical controls and/or related field along with 2 years of electrical experience in a manufacturing/industrial plant environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Program variable frequency drives (VFD's) and programmable logic controllers (PLC's)

  • Maintain/repair all plant and building equipment to include periodic inspections and cleaning.

  • Prepares, maintains and provides training on equipment LOTO procedures as required.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic drawings in conjunction with maintenance and repair activities.

  • Monitors line equipment and reports observed safety & maintenance related issues.

  • Performs other maintenance activities to include items generated by work orders and minor maintenance during production line changes.

  • Follow machine electrical requirements and/or needs for optimum performance, tool life, and product quality.

  • Assist in development of standard operating practices as required for proper control operations and continual improvement initiatives.

  • Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects.

  • Fosters and promotes positive employee relations with a high level of employee engagement.

  • Assist in providing a safe and productive work environment, including housekeeping.

  • Monitors projects assigned to electrical contractors for compliance to NPP safety programs. (Hot Work Permits/PPE/SDS/Fall Protection)

  • Controls usage of material and supplies. Checks on a continuous basis to insure availability to prevent possible interruptions in production.

  • Maintains familiarity with the operations and maintenance requirements for all related electrical equipment.

  • Requisitions the purchase of outside supplies for related material processing areas.

  • Participates in safety and accident programs within the company.

  • Exercises their responsibility related to the enforcement of safety policies and procedures. (PPE, Reporting of Near Misses, use of LOTO devices)

  • Replaces component parts as part of repair projects.

  • Consults with the Maintenance Team Leader and other personnel as required in conjunction with maintenance and/or repair projects.

  • Keeps informed of new technology, new product mixes and new vendors. Helps purchasing establish new vendors. Travels as required to stay current of new technology. Promotes efficiency and modernization.

Education: Graduation from high school plus at least two years of related electrical controls related training.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

At least two years of recent related plant electrical maintenance experience that includes the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in plant electrical construction and maintenance operations including reading blueprints and schematics.

  • Strong working knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.

  • Strong working knowledge of VFD’s and PLC ladder logic related to equipment controls.

  • Ability to plan, organize and perform complex electrical maintenance activities with a strong sense of initiative and urgency.

  • Ability to operate general office equipment including maintenance related applications on a microcomputer.

  • Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to conduct effective training programs on related electrical equipment.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to conform to Company attendance standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in elevated locations.

  • Ability to work effectively in a participative/team-oriented environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in electronic and manufacturing maintenance operations including reading blueprints and schematics.

  • Strong working knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.

  • Ability to plan, organize and perform moderately complex manufacturing maintenance activities.

  • Ability to operate general office equipment including maintenance related applications on a microcomputer.

  • Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Pay: Wages commensurate with education and/or work experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

The position has reasonable and safe working conditions in general, but requires the proper use of safety equipment and proper knowledge of safety precautions to maintain the reasonable working conditions.

The individual may encounter significant emotional strain or tension and will constantly be exposed to standing, moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), occasional heavy lifting (75 + pounds), an environment that requires occasional ear and eye protection, working at elevations up to 50 feet, adverse seasonal weather conditions and other environmental conditions normally present in a modern manufacturing plant.
