Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Peak Shaving Gas Engineer to join our Peak Shaving Team , located in Evansville, IN .

You will have the ability to: apply engineering principles to the design and installation of Underground Storage, Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Propane Air Peak Shaving systems/equipment in a safe, efficient, and practical manner. Oversee various Capital construction projects in the Peak Shaving Department. Oversee the programming, operation, maintenance, and replacement of the Peak Shaving Departments process control systems including Programmable Logic Controllers ( PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control systems, Gas & Fire systems, field devices and instrumentation.

Essential Functions

  • Performs engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies and coordination of Underground Storage, LNG, and Propane Air System Peak Shaving installations.

  • Perform engineering design, calculations, estimates, and studies in support of Peak Shaving process control equipment.

  • Oversees the layout, sizing and specification of process and pipeline equipment, economic justifications, and indirect supervision of others when project teamwork is required.

  • Creates engineering drawings and effectively communicate design details to field personnel and contractors.

  • Use knowledge of hardware, software, and systems to maintain safety, high reliability availability and security of facilities and systems-controlled process control systems.

  • Program control system to perform required functions.

  • Conducts process system studies.

  • Plan, promote, design, engineer and implement improvements as required to meet safety, regulatory and reliability needs of the facilities. Assists in evaluation of system operations and troubleshoots problems.

  • Analyzes Propane-Air, LNG and Underground Storage systems, processes, flows, pressures, temperatures, and other variables during the design/replacement/controls process.

Education Description

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in one of the following areas: gas engineering, operations, utility design or related project construction design, SCADA, PLC hardware and software systems.

  • Experience working with electrical and mechanical process equipment, compression, and piping systems.

A bonus to have

  • SAP experience.

  • AutoCAD experience.
