The Manager – Power Plant reports to the Director-Southern Gas Fleet and manages the daily operations and maintenance of a power plant. Ensures safe, reliable and efficient production of electric power in accordance with applicable federal, state and ISO/RTO regulations. Performs management and oversight through subordinate managers, supervisors and other direct reports. Ensures plant workforce is engaged, motivated and properly trained to perform assigned duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the power plant operations, maintenance, and support teams strive to achieve World Class Safety Performance by maintaining a safe working environment for employees and contractors, compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and regulations and creation of a sustainable culture of safety in the workplace. Ensures the teams are equipped with all the necessary tools and training to work safely, protect workers and achieve outstanding safety results.

  • Ensures environmental compliance through consistent engagement with permit requirements and operational performance. Proactively recognizes potential environmental challenges and identifies solutions to reach timely, cost-effective, solutions.

  • Practices ethical business conduct and compliance with both the letter and spirit of all laws, rules and regulations to which Cleco is subject; and requires the same from all employees within the applicable power plant organization.

  • Provides team members with individual and group development opportunities including training, performance planning, feedback, appraisals, and general performance management. Ensures actionable succession and leadership development plans are in place for the applicable facility.

  • Aligns the organization with corporate values by recognizing and addressing cultural issues that could inhibit employee development and engagement. Consistently strives to eliminate leadership deficiencies, in self and others within the plant organization, that contribute to negative morale and organizational dysfunction.

  • Develops and implements strategic, operational and financial plans related to plant operations, material handling and maintenance; as applicable to the specific facility. Responsible for the development of a 5-year operating plan each year by providing oversight, direction, and input to department managers/supervisors for planning capital and O&M expenditures. Develops, monitors, and reports plant performance measures.

  • Manages and is accountable for overall plant performance through analysis of benefits, risks and costs. Implements strategic business objectives for operations, maintenance, safety, and environmental compliance to maximize the performance of the applicable facility assets.

  • Encourages and implements plant strategies for improved efficiencies, reduced costs, and improved reliability through utilization of KPIs, data analytics, automation and other tools. Keeps the plant current with modern technologies and best practices to enhance overall plant performance.

  • Embraces and participates in the development of overall organizational governance, standards, procedures, processes, and metrics for alignment with business goals. Ensure generating facility personnel adhere to business unit procedures and practices including operations procedures, work management, outage execution, supply chain standards, etc.

  • Develops mutually-beneficial business relationships, both internal and external, to become a trusted advisor to key functional leaders and stakeholders; and proactively support business objectives within their function.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • 2-5+ years personnel management experience

  • Knowledge of standard business practices and professionalism

  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees to address difficult issues

  • Ability to manage high workloads and conflicting priorities

  • Ability to operate effectively and proactively with an employee centric mindset
