Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is a progressive electric utility, member-owned cooperative serving Southside Virginia. MEC is seeking a motivated applicant to fill the position of Line Technician in our Emporia District.
Qualified applicants must have a H.S. Diploma/G.E.D, have completed a line apprenticeship program, and have received a certificate as a Journeyman Lineman.
Must be able to climb, perform utility rescue and work at heights in extreme weather conditions w/overtime due to rotating "on call" or emergencies. Have and maintain a current Virginia CDL with a good driving record. Able to acquire and maintain VDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Certification and hold First Aid and CPR certification.
Must have a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines and service to and on consumer premises. Must have completed apprenticeship program at MEC or provide proof of certified program. A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated.
Must adhere to and promote safety regulations as set forth by the Cooperative and lead by example in this area. Must possess an effective working knowledge of construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines. Able to provide detailed, accurate and legible reports. Able to effectively communicate and have interpersonal skills to deal with members, public, and co-workers.
Will be required to live within 25 miles travel distance from the assigned office. Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participant in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.
