Position Summary

The Power Block Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing leadership for the Process Engineers and Equipment Owners that support the Power Block and Balance of Plant Areas at the Edwardsport IGCC Generating Station, located in Edwardsport, IN. This position will report to the Technical Director and is responsible for providing development, oversight, and guidance to the Power Block Technical Team. This includes establishing goals, program initiatives, and reports that will be distributed to all stakeholders, both internal and external to the Edwardsport Station.


  • The Power Block Engineering Manager ensures adequate engineering and technical support of the Station, including ensuring that all technical & engineering processes and procedures in which the Tech Team interfaces are implemented and adhered to.

  • Examples include: Major Equipment Reliability Meetings, station configuration management and control, optimization of maintenance plans, and O&M and capital budget planning and input.

  • The Engineering Manager has responsibility for system ownership, unit and equipment condition and risk assessment, as well as the condition and performance-monitoring programs at the station.

  • Provide guidance in the identification and resolution of complex engineering and technical problems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the station.

  • Conducts and/or oversees the preparation of engineering and technical studies, analysis and reports as needed.

  • Counsels, trains, evaluates, develops, guides and assists assigned personnel relative to job performance and duties.

  • Develop and/or maintain required equipment documentation and databases.

  • Meet station environmental, health and safety objectives.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships between departments and internal customers.

Working Conditions

  • Office and plant environment with exposures to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fly-ash, coal dust, fumes, confined spaces, and extreme heights, working around pressurized, rotating, and energized equipment.

  • Base work hours are dayshift, 8 hours per day; 5 days per week, additional overtime will be required to support projects, plant outages and emergent problems.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.

  • 5 years power plant or industrial experience as a managing technical expert in power plant and/or steam generation systems. (In addition to degree)

  • 11 years power plant or industrial experience as a managing technical expert in power plant and/or steam generation systems. (In lieu of a degree: If applicable)

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be able to form strong working relationships with craft, first-line supervision, planning and scheduling, financial analysts, and peer unit heads.

  • Registered Professional Engineer

  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with large steam turbines, combustion turbines and associated support equipment

  • Demonstrated experience with high energy piping

  • Demonstrated ability and experience with large rotating equipment including but not limited to pumps, blowers, fans, and compressors

  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with cryogenic air separation process and associated equipment.

  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with conventional water treatment process and associated equipment, including water softening and clarification, reverse osmosis systems, and demineralized water production.

  • Demonstrated ability to create, review and comment on equipment specifications and drawings related to the above-mentioned equipment

  • Demonstrated organizational/planning skills, with ability to multi-task and set work priorities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop simple engineering solutions to complex problems, while satisfying applicable code requirements

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with craft, supervision, engineering, and management personnel

  • Demonstrated familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel, API, OSHA, ASTM and ANSI Code requirements

  • Expert technical presentation skills; able to break down complex systems into everyday language

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in coordinating and integrating of major project activities.

  • Mandatory Hearing Protection Program

  • Ability to satisfactorily meet the physical job requirements including walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working in hot or cold temperatures, exposure to dust, exposure to noise, and lifting to 50 lbs.

  • Must pass respiratory physical, and be able to wear all required PPE (including but not limited to full- and half-face respirators and safety harness)

  • Work weekends, holidays, overtime and callouts as needed
