Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is looking for a Plant Engineer I, II, or III to join our team at our coal fired power plant, Wateree Station, in Eastover, SC. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Applicants graduating in 2024 with an ABET accredited Engineer Degree will be considered for this opportunity.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below:

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined under Minimum Requirements.

Engineer I - Job Responsibilities

  • Under direction of a supervisor or work leader perform routine assignments designed to develop professional engineering knowledge and gain familiarity with power plant operational systems.

  • Plant engineer roles and responsibilities may entail capital project support, corrective maintenance troubleshooting, participation in environmental compliance projects and initiatives as well as routine reporting

  • Work with craft personnel and their supervision to execute tasks. Craft includes Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation and Controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical information such as P&IDs, O&M manuals, technical drawings.

  • Perform Power Plant results technician work, such as recording of plant heat rate, fuel consumption, reagent consumption, material receipts & logging of plant events for NERC reports.

  • Supporting of planned and unplanned outage work. This may include call outs outside of normal 40-hour day shift.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Engineer II - Job Responsibilities

  • This position will be responsible for monitoring plant operations and efficiency and for implementing projects/procedures to improve plant performance and efficiency.

  • Additional responsibilities include writing procedures and specifications, plant performance testing, and documentation control.

  • Other responsibilities include management of assigned projects, which may include developing work scopes, writing specifications, performing cost estimates and justifications, evaluating bid proposals, and coordinating and supervising the work.

  • Successful candidate must be knowledgeable in industrial safety and have or develop a thorough understanding of power plant systems and processes.

  • Applicants must be computer literate and be highly motivated, self-starters with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills for direct interaction with operations and maintenance personnel.

  • The successful candidate must be capable and willing to accept future roles of increased responsibility.

Engineer III - Job Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and supervises design of major projects or parts of major projects, preparation of specifications, contracts, and work order requests. Provides project supervision and review.

  • Plant engineer roles and responsibilities may entail capital project support, corrective maintenance troubleshooting, participation in environmental compliance projects and initiatives as well as routine reporting.

  • Has a thorough knowledge of the power plant operating systems and processes.

  • Will develop and update budget and cash flows for assigned projects.

Engineer I - Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • 0-2+ years of engineering experience.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory.

  • Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

  • Effective decision-making skills.

  • Computer skills and application of software programs.

  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills.

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems.

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

  • Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills.

  • Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work within a team environment.

Engineer II - Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • 3 or more years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is required

  • Proficient knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.

  • Requires experience in a professional engineering position.

  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

  • Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management. Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).

  • Planning, organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.

  • Effective decision-making skills.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks

Engineer III - Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • 5 or more years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is required

  • Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.

  • Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.

  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

  • Strong personal computer skills.

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems with proven decision-making skills.

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).

  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment.

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks with strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor

Required Engineering Criteria:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer license.
