Job Description Summary:

JOB TITLE: Test Technician/Test Specialist B/Test Specialist A/Senior Test Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Field Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a Field Engineering position which performs a variety of system wide technical assignments associated with the design, installation, acceptance,andmaintenance testing of complex communications,electricaland electronic systems, components, and devices; with adherence to Eversource and OSHA safety requirements.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the acceptance, installation and preventive maintenance tests on equipment to include protective relaying (electromechanical and microprocessor), transfer trip, transformers, breakers, reclosers, etc.
  • Verifies correct operation of devices and/or systems.
  • Interprets test results; makes recommendationstoengineering,operations. Based on hardware characteristics and performance.
  • Calibrates, adjusts, and verifies performance characteristics of equipment;
  • Conducts tests and investigations in connection with customer complaints of a technical nature, such as RFI and stray voltage.
  • Submits reports, drawings, sketches, logs, and other up-to-date records of work performed; corrects engineering drawings to reflect field changes.
  • Designs, recommends,and/or installs modifications to electrical or electronic systems or devices.
  • Furnishes technical expertise, advice, and support to construction, maintenance and overhead lines personnelasrequired.
  • Operates a variety of electrical and electronic instrument, such as voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters,relay test sets,etc.
  • Must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Supports emergency restoration efforts as required.

SKILLS:

  • Thorough technical knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, and control systems, and ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in these fields.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring logic and interconnection diagrams.
  • Knowledge of specialized instrumentation,use, and application; working knowledge of electrical and electronic testing and measurementtechniques.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to install, operate and maintain software programs.

JOB CLASSIFICATIONS: (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Test Technician:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology and 0-2 years of related experience or an associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology or formal education equivalent to an associate’s degreein electrical engineeringand 2-4 years related experience required.

Test Specialist B:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology and 2-4 years of related experience or an associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology or formal education equivalent to an associate's degree with studiesin electrical engineeringand 4-6 years related experience required.

Test Specialist A:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology and 4-6 years of related experience or an associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology or formal education equivalent to an associate's degree with studiesin electrical engineeringand 6-8 years related experience required.

Senior Test Specialist:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology and 7+ years of related experience or an associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology or formal education equivalent to an associate's degree with studiesin electrical engineeringand 9+ years related experience required.
