MISO Energy Principal Systems Engineer - IV&V in Eagan, Minnesota

Location: Carmel, Indiana or Eagan, Minnesota

MISO is hiring a Principal Systems Engineer - IV&V to help refine and promote methodologies for traceable verification across projects and across portfolios as we influence the future of development at MISO. In this role you will work with domain professionals and project teams to be a part of crafting technology solutions that ensure the future systematic, reliable operations of the bulk electric power grid. Apply modern systems engineering practices to drive confident, traceable Integration, Verification, & Validation (IV&V) of developed capabilities. As MISO’s Principal Systems Engineering - IV&V , you will:

  • Establish enterprise-wide verification strategies and a roadmap for continuous maturation.

  • Coordinate, refine, and document scalable verification processes and methodologies to fit MISO’s development process for execution across projects and portfolios.

  • Work with key stakeholders and partners to ensure traceability of verification through acquisition and development of capabilities.

  • Develop and update Master Test Plans to encapsulate program and project high-level verification approach and events.

  • Lead project efforts to define, plan, develop and update test environments.

  • Demonstrate technical leadership with interpersonal and effective communication skills enabling effective collaboration, negotiation, and success in a dynamic team environment.

  • Drive Systems Thinking across the enterprise and through the full development lifecycle.

  • Be a liaison between the Systems Engineering team and the various internal business stakeholders, partnering with them to build system engineering artifacts to support program/project management, vendor development, and business analysis.

  • Collaborate across a broad and diverse set of partners (Enterprise Architecture, Research & Development, Process & Performance, Product Teams, Software Engineering, Test, and Business teams) to develop systems engineering deliverables on multiple projects in strategic portfolios.

To be successful in this role, we’re looking for the following:

  • Demonstrable experience in orchestrating IV&V activities on the right side of the systems engineering vee, especially across multiple projects, portfolios, or product lines.

  • At least 8 years of relevant systems engineering work experience applying systems engineering practices across multiple phases of the system lifecycle (concept, design, requirements, test, integration, operations, and retirement)

  • Experience with Agile development methods especially SAFE and DevOps, software development lifecycle management, continuous integration, build and release management and managed environments.

  • Understanding of quality processes appropriate for development and sustainment of high-availability, mission-critical systems.

  • Experience applying systems engineering practices as a systems “thinker” who can approach problems logically, iteratively, and incrementally at multiple layers of abstraction to decompose and synthesize issues.

  • Experience with modeling tools such as Orbus iServer, Enterprise Architect, IBM Rhapsody, Dassault Cameo, ViTech Genesys, etc.

  • Experience with requirements analysis using tools such as Blueprint, IBM DOORS, etc.

  • Demonstrated strength at documenting and maintaining artifacts such as functional specifications, concepts of operations, and operational definitions in support of engineering practices.

Appropriate level will be determined based on experience and knowledge.
