Job Summary
Fleet Services provides strategic leadership, management, and governance for all transportation and mobile equipment in the Duke Energy fleet which consists of over 14 thousand vehicles/mobile equipment. The supervisor of vehicle maintenance provides leadership and oversight to a diverse workforce for assigned maintenance locations (garages). Key accountabilities include: ensuring the execution of maintenance and repair work, providing strong leadership and oversight to employees, ensuring compliance with applicable, safety, environmental, ANSI, DOT and maintenance standards, managing work schedules, ensuring tasks are properly recorded in the work management system, coordinating with customer contacts to ensure their needs are being met and managing the business/financial aspects of assigned garages. Safety, environmental compliance, productivity and quality are all critical components of the successful execution of this work. The supervisor of vehicle maintenance is responsible for identifying and addressing barriers in the workplace and must also effectively communicate the plans and direction of the organization. Position is responsible for employee development and performance management of the assigned craft in the work group.
Responsibilities
Manages the Fleet Services for assigned maintenance locations (garages) to deliver safe, reliable vehicles equipment, and services for multiple customer departments
Ensure timely completion of assigned work in compliance with safety, environmental, ANSI, DOT standards, manufacturers’ guidelines, and Fleet Services best practices.
Provide safe working conditions and practices by providing adequate safety training of work practices and procedures. Initiate action to promptly correct potential or actual safety problems.
Oversee assigned work and assuring quality of work being performed.
Complete field reviews, observations, and audits to ensure progress, performance, quality and results.
Foster a strong safety culture as it relates to both employee and operator safety.
Maintain a working knowledge of Duke Energy safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Monitor all aspects of team’s performance with a focus on continuous improvement.
Initiate actions to ensure objectives are achieved and improvement opportunities are addressed.
Monitor and manage garage expenditures to support overall budget and incentive goals.
Ensure geographic area is appropriately staffed and supported for 24/7 operations. This includes both individual availability and setting employee expectations.
Support storm restoration efforts including any off-system deployments
Local representative and point of contact for fleet, customer, equipment and facilities issues at assigned maintenance locations.
Lead a safe, productive and motivated work force
Maintain positive employee relations and culture based on trust, open communication, personal accountability, ownership, teamwork and collaboration.
Develop a culture of two-way communication, encouraging employee feedback.
Enable employees to make decisions within boundaries of processes and goals.
Actively communicate with employees on all relevant items related to the company, Fleet Services and the work group.
Recruit and develop technicians. Manage employee development including technical, compliance and on-the-job training
Maintain a working knowledge of bargaining unit contracts
Lead continuous improvement and change management efforts
Serve as a model of leadership for change.
Support human performance and corrective action programs by investigating, reviewing and communicating events, leading and participating in investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
Ensure successful implementation of organizational improvements and technology.
Analyze reports and take appropriate actions
Work effectively with Fleet GO staff identifying areas of improvement for maintenance practices and procedures.
Be a student of the Fleet Services business and the utility industry.
Analyze key performance reports and effectively monitor workgroups operational performance.
Deliver exceptional customer service
Engage with internal customers to ensure the organization is meeting their needs.
Work collaboratively with customers to preform required maintenance and repairs in a way the maximizes equipment availability.
Maintain positive customer relations by ensuring timely resolution of issues and concerns. Effectively elevates and communicates issues and concerns to appropriate Fleet GO staff teams.
Monitor work order accuracy to ensure customers are accurately charged for services.
Support transparency objectives by keeping customers informed about work impacting charges or equipment availability.
Directly collaborate with customers during storm restoration efforts and perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the Fleet Storm Plan.
Required/Basic Qualifications
High school diploma/GED
In addition to required diploma, five (5) years minimum of related work experience
Job Specific Requirements
Demonstrated working knowledge of fleet maintenance best practices
Demonstrated working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations that pertain to vehicle/equipment operation and maintenance
Desired Qualifications
Class A CDL license
Bachelor's degree
2 or 4 Year Degree

Possesses working knowledge of Fleet maintenance processes.
Prior supervisory experience working with craft employees.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage employees.
Experience working with customers. Demonstrated good customer service skills
Ability to effectively relate to craft, leadership, and external stakeholders
Demonstrated technical aptitude and ability to learn and communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse group of stakeholders.
Experience with process or continuous improvement efforts
Understanding of basic financial concepts including experience managing budgets.
Effective at managing through multiple and at times conflicting priorities in a manner that keeps employees focused and fosters positive relations with customer and other stakeholders
Working knowledge of the equipment and associated regulations (DOT, ANSI, etc.)
Experience managing represented employees and working through labor agreements.
Working Conditions
Valid driver's license
Onsite mobility classification – work will be performed at a company facility.
Must be able to respond to emergency situations
Residency Requirement: Must reside within 60 minutes of assigned work location
M - F, with some after-hours responsibilities and storm duty
