Job Summary and Description:
Perform complex analysis with moderate direction and supervision. Work directly with EPRI staff and may engage in supervised interaction with members and industry.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Identification:
- Research and identify available technologies and technological approaches for water aeration at hydropower stations, focusing on solutions both at the runner and outside the runner.
Solution Characterization:
Conduct detailed analyses to characterize each water aeration technology, evaluating their technoeconomic and environmental implications.
Assess the application spaces for each technology, determining suitability for different hydropower stations and operational conditions.
Hydropower Flexibility Tool Utilization:
Develop proficiency in using a hydropower flexibility tool to assess the impact of reducing flow on grid flexibility.
Work with senior engineers to integrate tool findings into operational strategies and recommendations.
-Conducts technical searches and analyzes information in support of the project team.
-May conduct independent research.
Additional Requirements:
-Assists technical research leads in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals, technical publications/papers, and making presentations.
Education
A recent graduate with a Master’s or PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field with a focus on hydropower or renewable energy systems.
Skills and Competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen interest in hydropower technologies and environmental impacts.
Familiarity with hydropower systems and components, particularly in the context of water aeration and flow management.
Basic understanding of technoeconomic analysis and environmental assessment methods.
Proficiency in relevant software tools and the ability to quickly learn and use hydropower flexibility assessment tools.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Additional Job Information:
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hydropower projects or research, particularly in water aeration or flow management.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards related to hydropower operations.
Experience with hydropower modeling and simulation tools.
