This position is located either in Detroit or Ann Arbor

Job Summary:

Applies advanced technical, scientific, and business knowledge and expertise to complex issues involving the analysis and execution of generation optimization strategies in the wholesale and retail marketplace. Focuses on projects and strategies for the optimization of generation portfolio assets as well as positioning the assets to maximize the opportunity for marketability and increased portfolio valuation in the energy, capacity, and ancillary services markets.

Key Accountabilities:

-Schedules, coordinates and supervises group professionals

-Analyzes information relating to the sale of energy products, supplies and services, as well as financial and/or operational modeling to ensure accurate forecasting

-Develops new generation prospects, prepare proposals, make presentations related to power/energy sales, generation asset optimization, and power supply planning

-Justifies modifications to current generation assets to improve valuations of capacity and energy products in the future marketplace, integrating risk management and hedging techniques

-Uses presentation and negotiation skills to build consensus and support for new or redeveloped programs

-Analyzes options presented to customers and identifies strategies to provide a product that optimizes the needs of the organization

-Exchanges analytical results to management outside of organizational unit to optimize generation assets

-Communicates factual results to government regulatory agencies, industrial customers, municipalities, and outside legal services

-Prepares technical articles for internal and external publications

Qualifications

-Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

-Required: Must have 10 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

-Master’s degree with a concentration in Power Systems

-Three years of experience in a project leader capacity

-Significant experience interpreting electric system maps, one-line diagrams, and overcurrent protection diagrams/charts

-Expert knowledge / experience in electric system steady state powerflow / dynamic analysis in PSS/E, TARA or other related software platforms

-Expert knowledge / experience in performing bulk electric system economic modeling in PROMOD-TAM or similar software

-Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and the electric system implications

-Advanced knowledge of design engineering, energy application technology, and environmental services, plant engineering, and outage management

-Working knowledge of power plant operation, including: thermal performance, net peaking capability, cycling, economic dispatch, fuel blending, over-firing, fuel inventory and switching, fixed and variable costs, outage scheduling, environmental compliance and ancillary services

-Advanced knowledge of blueprints/drawings/schematics, and general plant, measuring devices, mechanical equipment, non-precision tools/instruments, power plant maintenance, power plant operations, and precision tools/instruments.

-Expert knowledge of electrical equipment, financial analysis and risk management

-Experience with contract administration, inventory management, purchasing and strategic procurement techniques

-Thorough knowledge of budgeting and forecasting, contract development/negotiation, strategic planning, affirmative action, organization/job design, and labor relations

-Working knowledge of environmental and corporate policy, environment and energy regulations, and regulatory compliance

-Highly developed communication skills, including oral, written and presentation skills, project management, training and education

-Experience with computer operations and database administration
