Job Summary
- Plans and performs technical construction quality inspection work to verify compliance with project plans, codes, specifications, and standards established for business units. Inspection work involves construction projects for construction of diverse generation facility technologies (Wind, Solar, Fossil, Natural Gas), Environmental systems/facilities, administrative facilities, and site modifications. Responsible for verifying aspects of projects, including those involving heavy construction methods, are completed in accordance with approved project documents such as: contracts, design drawings, work packages, quality plans, procedures, standards, and specifications as assigned. Verification duties may include both site inspection and vendor facility inspections at the point of activity to insure that shipped product fulfills all specifications and quality requirements. These verification activities will be related to various types of discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, weld, coatings, etc.) related inspection criteria. Span of control is 0.
Key Accountabilities
• Inspects and monitors quality requirements in accordance with the company Quality Management System manual, policies, procedures, and project specifications.
• Reads, interprets and understands the terms and conditions of construction contracts, specifications, standards, codes, and drawings as they pertain to the performance of inspection duties.
• Inspects all phases of construction within his/her assigned work area. Typical construction work inspected may include: civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, systems, architectural, environmental, and landscaping work.
• Ensures the contractor is working with approved plans, specifications, shop/construction drawings and updated contract drawings.
• Maintains quality control in accordance with established guidelines relating to assigned portion of the project. Verifies the implementation of the inspection and testing portions of the Contractor Quality Control Plan that pertains to the work assignment and verifies quality conforms to contract standards.
• Observes work operations for compliance with applicable quality and safety regulations; is alert for unsafe practices, and where appropriate, requests their correction by the contractor's representative on site. In emergency situations, authorized to stop or suspend work if necessary, to prevent accident or injury, or proceeding with activities that will have a negative effect on quality and immediately reports the action to a supervisor
• Initiates Non-Conformance reports (NCR) and/or Corrective Action Request (CAR) as required for conditions effecting quality to gain resolution and minimize re-work.
• Stops or suspends work if necessary, to prevent accident or injury, or proceeding with activities that will have a negative effect on quality.
• Completes inspector's portion of all electronic and hardcopy forms pertaining to inspection results of construction inspection or surveillance accurately.
• Monitors corrective actions to inspection findings/deficiencies.
• Performs accurate mechanical, physical and visual inspection of materials, components, and sub-assemblies as per Inspection Plans and Specification Requirements.
• Conducts or witnesses various tests and quality checks based on discipline inspection requirements (civil, mech., elect. weld, structural, coatings, etc). Verify that project installations fall within standards, measured to specifications and within tolerances, readability of labels, etc.
• Ensures calibration and maintenance is performed on inspection equipment.
• Performs product identification and traceability activities, as required.
• Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with those individuals and organizations encountered in the work.
• Complies with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
• Performs storm safety team and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent and 8 years of relevant experience in a Construction, Manufacturing, or Quality environment
• Associate's degree in Engineering, Quality, Construction, Project Management, IT or other technical degree and 6 years of in a Construction, Manufacturing, or Quality environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Construction, Project Management, IT or other technical degree and 4 years of in a Construction, Manufacturing, or Quality environment.
Other Qualifications
Preferred
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 or ISO/TS 16001, NQA1, or 10CFR50 Appendix B
• Current or previous auditor certification
• Project or Construction management certification
• Previous Quality Control Inspection experience in a Construction environment
• Previous discipline (Civil, Mech, Elect, Structural, Weld, etc) inspection background or certification
• Knowledge of and ability to use wide range of precision measuring and test equipment
• Current or previously held Level II or greater NDE certifications (e.gPT, MT, UT, VT, RT)
• Certified Welding Inspector certification
Experience working with Renewable
Strong Electrical backgrounds
Other Requirements
• Familiarity with structured quality program
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel and Word
• Familiarity with precision measuring and test equipment
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
