As an Electrical Engineer assigned to this project, you will be part of this exciting transformation that will position our power distribution system to support distributed generation and electric vehicle charging that connects with cleaner energy sources like wind power, solar, and natural gas generation.
Evaluate all generation and storage interconnections to the DTE electrical system for compliance to the Michigan Public Service Commission’s interconnection rules, Utility standards and industry best practices.
Render sound engineering decisions - under time constraints – with limited supervisory input.
Initiate, Review and Approve interconnection studies and manage external service providers to remain compliant with the MPSC interconnections process; makes presentations of interconnection related projects to all levels of management & external parties (contractors, customers, etc.)
Evaluate Technical feasibility, compliance, Prepare plans, specifications, work instructions and cost estimates for interconnection projects requiring internal and external engineering services.
Communicate with Customers and Developers on the status of their interconnection and document compliance with the interconnection process including maintaining metrics and reporting for internal and regulatory reporting.
Coach/mentor, and provide ongoing constructive feedback to less experienced engineering & technical personnel.
Propose, initiate and implement electrical system field and design changes, and performance improvements.
Lead for continuous improvement (CI) efforts regarding interconnections processes: designing processes; establishing quality/quantity standards & metrics; collecting, refining, adapting & communicating ‘best practices’; sharing knowledge and developing staff in a systematic fashion. Uses process design outcomes to solve problems.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of 6 years of job relevant experience
Preferred experience in one or more of the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Distribution Engineering & Planning- Equipment Engineering- Substation Design- Sub transmission and Industrial Power Engineering & Planning- Relay Engineering (protective relaying and control)- Transmission Engineering & Planning- CYME & PSSE Modeling & Solution Development- Smart Grid
Proficiency in computer applications relevant for field
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Developed planning and continuous improvement skills
Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead cross-functional teams
