Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
This position is responsible for the entire purchasing function, as well as outsourcing and the transactional piece of purchasing. This role is specifically responsible for aggressively leading the strategic sourcing team and associated third party consultants toward innovatively driving enterprise wide supply chain cost savings through the DTE strategic sourcing processes. Exhibits excellent leadership and executive level communication skills, project management skills; and capable of setting a vision that translates into achieving short and long term goals. Leads by example and sets standards that produce significant savings, as well as innovative thinking and change management. Performs or guides & ensures the accomplishment of the following core management functions for a given BU (or group within that BU): planning, organizing, directing, staffing / employee selection & performance management, coordinating, reporting & budgeting.
Integration of DTE Senior Officer goals and objectives for total corporate spend within the business unit and Supply Chain and the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans to achieve desired results.
Interface with all business units at the executive and management level concerning enterprise wide strategic planning and then bring back the plans to the sourcing group in order to effect total DTE Energy spend.
Ensure completion of accurate spend analyses, identify long term sustainable strategies, create multiyear savings and develop trackable performance metrics.
Continually monitor, analyze and assess price and delivery trends on commodities for impact on business unit spend and source strategies with consistent communication of impact to senior leadership, finance and business units.
Support corporate minority and business initiatives at industry associations and expand the Company's presence at national industry forums.
Stay abreast of the latest contracting processes and technologies.
Assure that strategic sourcing opportunities are a priority.
Continually refine the strategic sourcing process to achieve maximum commercial benefit to DTE Energy.
Identify and recruit highly developed employees into the purchasing organization. Engage, train and developing the capabilities of all employees in the organization.
Lead DTE Energy's executive Supply Chain Leadership Council meetings.
Address cost savings by establishing Corporate Services savings targets in each spend category and implement commodity and service sourcing plans to achieve those targets.
Have the ability to communicate and negotiate with C-level vendors (COO, CEO) for multi-year and multi-million dollar contracts.
Streamline the transactional side of Supply Chain.
Develop managers who possess a deep functional expertise, a general knowledge of materials management, warehousing, fleet and facilities operations to effectively become the single point of contact for the business units.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
8 years+ of experience in senior level buying with at least 3 years’ experience in managing strategic/enterprise sourcing initiatives
8 years prior leadership experience including managing a staff of employees across multiple locations and overseeing a multimillion-dollar departmental budget
Demonstrated ability in designing and leading strategic sourcing plans that have resulted in significant measurable savings, as well advanced knowledge of strategic procurement techniques.
Extensive innovative and creative conflict management and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated ability in building and maintaining effective and successful internal and external relationships resulting in significant enterprise cost reductions.
Prior experience of leading and implementing multimillion dollar continuous improvement and lean operational projects.
Prior procurement responsibilities for a minimum of $30 million dollars in spend.
Demonstrated experience in building, maintaining and engaging a team of purchasing professionals toward cost savings.
Significant leadership experience in driving both operational and cultural changes within the sourcing group and across the Enterprise.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial and economic analysis, financial forecasting mythologies, managerial finance, financial/budget planning, internal auditing, risk management, and statistical analysis.
Demonstrated ability in integrating with technical and business organizations to insure proper business unit prioritization for savings and supplier development.
