Job Summary

Supports gas utility business using computational statistical modeling with quantitative methods to predict workload source, volume and timing. Performs work that helps formulate recommendations for business strategy based on statistical observation of data to determine the best courses of action. Responsible for acquiring, cleaning, transposing, storing, and automating data processes to create sustainable and repeatable methodologies. Requires moderate supervision to understand context of problems, receive assignments, and solve problems with limited complexity. Regularly scheduled project check-ins are required for analytical project work. Helps support other analysts and member of the team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs work using quantitative methods and analysis to help develop, enhance, and maintain statistical/fundamental models for evaluating operational performance and recommendations

  • Conducts work to support existing emergency workload forecasting using AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) time-series R model with accuracy, including back testing and quartile performance testing to attain desired predication success rate

  • Assists with ad hoc requests for evaluating business strategy by ingesting data and creating statistical process of observing the data and recommending a strategy that will improve business operations

  • Develops and performs methods of capturing, cleaning, transposing, calculating, and storing data and results in a manner that supports repeated usage and sharing

  • Evaluates meter testing results and identifies best sampling practices for future periods and identifies types of meters to be remediated

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, or Finance

  • One year of quantitative modeling and testing experience

  • One year of programming experience using R, Python, Spark or similar

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the gas business

  • Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server experience

  • Querying Oracle experience

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to adapt to changing software platforms for retrieving, analyzing, sharing, and visualizing data

  • Capable of recognizing the best statistical tools to apply to problems dependent on problem requirements

  • Creates presentations on findings and makes recommendations to leadership based on results

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate methodology choices in clear and concise manner

  • Analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision making skills with ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions and best course of action

  • Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Ability to work overtime during peak periods; flexibility in working hours required
