This position has a reporting requirement of 60 miles from the headquarters: as a condition of pre-employment, the selected candidate must currently reside or relocate within 60 miles of the position's headquarters (100 Alpha Drive, Destrehan, LA 70047).

Relocation benefits are not offered.

JOB SUMMARY:

Working within Entergy's Safety Rules, perform routine and emergency maintenance on substation protective relaying and control equipment, as well as installation of new equipment.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine & emergency maintenance and repairs on all types of substation protective relay systems, control equipment and communication equipment.

  • Test and troubleshoot system protection equipment, control equipment, panel equipment, RTU's, breakers, transformers, communication channel equipment, DFR's, etc.

  • Install relays and relay panels, install and terminate cabling and wiring, commission and test relays and related equipment, calibrate relays, etc.

  • Switch and ground substation equipment in accordance with Entergy's Switching Procedures, Grounding Procedures, Safe Work Procedures and Safety Rules.

  • Must be available for 24-hour callout and extended hours.

  • Must be able to successfully complete the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Skills Training Department and OJT Qualification and Certification process.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • Preferred : Associate's Degree.

Minimum Experience:

Relay Tech I:

  • Associate's Degree

  • Without an associate degree: at least 1 year of experience.

Relay Tech II:

  • Without an associate degree: at least 2 years of experience.

  • With an associate degree: at least 1 year of experience.

Relay Tech III:

  • Without an associate degree: at least 4 years of experience.

  • With an associate degree: at least 3 years of experience.

Relay Tech Sr.:

  • Without an associate degree: at least 6 years of electrical/electronics/metering/controls experience.

  • With an associate degree: at least 5 years of experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand electrical one-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams, technical manuals and instruction books.

  • Understanding of protective relaying concepts and AC and DC power systems.

  • Knowledgeable with electronics, computer logic, microprocessors and programmable computer logic.

  • Completion of the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Training department.

  • Preferred:

  • Knowledge of protective relaying/SCADA/communications/substation equipment.

  • Experience in relay maintenance and installation.

  • Knowledgeable in MS Office and computer skills.

  • Self-motivated and dependable team player.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Any Certifications, Licenses, etc.:

  • Successful completion of the EEI TECH test.

  • If EEI TECH test recommended, notate this on resume.

EEI Testing:

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing.
