Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function) Manage a project portfolio and cross-functional unit, which has a major impact on corporate, business unit, or organizational objectives. Responsible for overseeing a core segment of the company's IT project management office, such as Back Office, Operations and OT, Customer Systems, Infrastructure and Operations, Capital and Compliance Projects, and Business Transformation. These teams are responsible for overall IT project management, including developing, maintaining and implementing standards and guidelines. Provide support to multiple affiliates such as MidAmerican Energy Company, Nevada Energy, Pacificorp, GT&S, Kern River, Northern Natural Gas, BHE Renewables, BHE U.S. Transmission and Berkshire Hathaway Energy. Establish strategic business objectives, strategies, and plans in support of Company strategic goals. Manage and allocate financial and employee resources. Responsible for coaching of PMO and IT standards and processes – direct management of contract PMs, grey-line management of FTE project managers within a core business support area. Typical Duties Responsibilities of this position include the following: Stakeholder engagement with all US affiliate business stakeholders in a core business segment such as Back Office, Operations and OT, Customer Systems, Infrastructure and Operations, Capital and Compliance Projects, and Business Transformation. Support of weekly project portfolio status meetings (one per business or business process council. Coaching of PMO and IT standards and processes – direct management of contract PMs, grey-line management of FTE project managers within a core business support area. Responsible for new project intake in coordination with business and IT stakeholders. Manage Project Management Standards, Project Management planning and reporting tools and enhancements. Responsible for overall IT project management, including creating the strategy for the project management office, implementing the strategy, and developing, maintaining and implementing processes, standards and guidelines. Works closely with the business optimization team to prioritize IT related projects based on the needs of the business. Works with IT directors and managers to ensure projects stay on track, meet budgets and negotiate roadblocks as necessary. Coordinate the following functions with the support of the IT financial analysts or project controls analysts: • Coordination and regular communication of a consolidate IT project portfolio, utilizing the full IT capital plan as a starting point, weekly stakeholder meetings and monthly budget meetings, and the new intake requests. • Coordinate requests for unbudgeted projects and project swaps in a monthly meeting. • Coordination of intake and release management and capacity planning • Coordinate ITR and KBDs through initiation to approval, maintaining an inventory and ensuring consisting vetting and capacity planning considerations prior to routing to IT CIO. • Standardization of the monthly financial reporting, by affiliate department manager and by cost category including month-month and forecast plus actual to plan variances, used to easily understand variances and support budget health and recovery. • Support of monthly affiliate capital and O&M budget meetings and review of BHE IT affiliate cross-charges and forecast accuracy. • Support consistent project estimating. • Oversight for contract origination, all phases of IT project delivery, and integrated project planning. • Support capital and O&M budget planning, forecasting and balancing. • Provide project delivery improvement training, standards, metrics, and support. • Leads critical reviews of failed changes and failures in project delivery involving human performance and documents issues and corrective action items. • Establish and facilitate processes to gather feedback from key stakeholders. • Oversight and management of significant vendor contracts and relationships as they relate to successful project delivery. • Management, selection and coaching of diverse resources including IT project managers, business analysts and IT staff. • Lead information technology projects and initiatives. Deliver effective management and oversight of complex technology projects. Deliver IT projects and business solutions in scope, within budget and timely. Exhibit organization, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and abilities. • This effort may include scoping, estimating, scheduling, allocating resources, budgeting and monitoring, and balancing client expectations. • This effort involves managing risks, adhering to standards, establishing and enacting governance models and policies, and communicating specific and broad implications to teams, stakeholders and steering bodies. • This effort involves developing detailed work plans and schedules and evaluating and defining appropriate ownership responsibil Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically, eight years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree) Eight or more years of experience managing multiple IT functions. Five years direct people management experience. High ownership within areas of management and ability to identify and react with a strong sense of urgency to project risks and issues. Management skills including the ability to initiate and establish objectives, develop and execute policy, direct and prioritize resources, and recommend and oversee development or implementation of systems, programs, or processes. Experience with Waterfall, Agile and Agile Hybrid project delivery. Ability to understand IT technical and functional requirements as they relate to project objectives and project planning activities. Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) as it relates to successful and compliant implementation of IT solutions. General understanding of IT operating and capital investment budgets. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong technical writing skills. Knowledge of the Critical Security Controls and the ISO 27001 frameworks is a plus. Demonstrate effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects. Ability to manage after-hours problems.
