MidAmerican Energy Company Intern - Tax & Property Accounting in Des Moines, Iowa

The purpose of the internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Interns provide support on a variety of work assignments and will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college to help achieve the company’s objectives. The position is temporary, nonexempt, and fulltime/hourly through the summer. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function) * Support Accounting Systems and Accounting Business Support areas by assisting with various departmental projects and responsibilities. * Assist in preparing federal and state income tax returns. * Initiate projects and set up accounting codes for capital related work. * Track project in-service dates by communicating with project managers. * Retire assets that have been removed from service. * Unitize projects and accurately assign assets to correct property units. * Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. * Performance Expectations (Key Success Factors) * Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy. * Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company. * Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary to effectively complete responsibilities; enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training. * Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information. * Attend work on a regular basis and support the company’s employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules. * Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. * Must be a sophomore or higher currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in accounting or finance. * Must be available May-August 2023 * Solid computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint). * Familiarity with data exchange tools and concepts. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete projects within tight deadlines. * Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer background check and drug screen. * Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation. * All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.
