Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to act as the primary corporate agent and communication link between Xcel Energy management and the IBEW Local Unions for the purpose of developing and implementing strategies and tactics to achieve labor relations goals and objectives. Primarily responsible for the administration, interpretation and negotiation of labor agreements. Manages resolution of grievances, arbitrations, disciplinary actions and departmental reorganizations. Provides consultation and investigation services to managers and employees to resolve workplace issues such as job performance, code of conduct violations, inappropriate use of company equipment, fraud, workplace violence, conflict resolution, Positive Discipline and Peer Group Resolution, etc. Responsible for the interpretation and consistent application and administration of Employee Handbook Policies.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide the expertise and leadership in the development of creative, proactive strategies to achieve Business Unit labor relations goals and objectives. This will be accomplished by providing management with the necessary guidance, advice and support regarding the administration, interpretation and negotiation of the IBEW labor agreements, Letters of Understanding and Exhibit B's. Anticipates and develops strategies and tactics for management action regarding emerging critical issues relating to workforce relations and workplace environment.

  • Serves as the primary communication conduit between company management and the IBEW local unions during negotiations, grievances, arbitrations and conflict resolution pertaining to issues having significant impact on the corporation. Provides expertise and facilitates dialogue between company management and union leadership at labor management meetings.

  • Provide the expertise and leadership during consultation with management and employees relating to conflict resolution, work performance, conduct, HR policy interpretation and application, positive discipline and peer group resolution.

  • Provide guidance and expertise to management during employee investigations and, when appropriate, conduct employee investigations, ensuring the completeness of the investigation and that the supporting documentation is captured.

  • Provide consultation to Human Resources Directors, Business Unit management, and employees pertaining to workforce relations policies, programs and issues.

  • Provide expert testimony and research services on company policies, procedures, and past practice on disciplinary actions and terminations for arbitrations, peer group resolution panels and court cases.

  • Design and conduct workforce relations courses as part of management development programs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management, Business Administration or equivalent education and/or experience.

  • Three or more years of experience in workforce relations field.

  • Knowledge of all Xcel Energy policies and programs, and state, federal & local employment laws, including the National Labor Relations Act.

  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, building internal consensus, and working with a diverse workforce.

  • Demonstrated strong communication, presentation, facilitation and training skills with managers and other employees.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $66,000 to $94,000 per year
