Xcel Energy is seeking a Production Specialist III to support steam and gas trubines, including troubleshooting and supporting inspections and overhauls/outages. This position will be based in the Denver Metro Area and will require traveling up to 50% of the time; mainly during the spring and fall to support overhauls and outages at power plants.
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of turbine-related experience, specifically with inspection, disassembly, and assembly of turbines or rotating equipment.
During COVID-19 Pandemic this position may require the ability to temporarily work remote within the company service territory until company protocol dictates return to the office criteria has been met.
Applies thorough knowledge and utilizes advanced technical expertise in a particular area of specialty in support of operations and maintenance across the Xcel fleet. These specialty areas may be, but not limited to, Controls, Electrical, Turbine-Generator/Rotating Equipment, Boilers, Plant Performance, Metallurgy, or Reliability. Provides technical support consisting of diagnostic analysis, short and long term maintenance/outage planning, resource development, documentation, and reliability centered operations and maintenance program direction and support. Position requires supervision of craft employees and extensive interfacing with departments, plants, and OEMs. Responsibilities are generally 50% in technical support, 30% in outage support, and 20% in maintaining fleet-wide programs and processes. Extensive travels within region and nation may be required. Some international travel may also be required.
Provide technical expertise, direction, and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems at all facilities. Trouble shoot system problems, assess equipment condition, and coordinate corrective maintenance work on equipment. Manage major maintenance projects(turbine overhauls, pump repair, maintenance of auxiliaries) including scoping, planning, scheduling, and direct supervision of craft employees.
Provide major facility maintenance project supervision for scheduled and unscheduled outages. Develop computerized scheduling techniques for modifications and new systems.
Conduct periodic audits of Quality Assurance procedures and develop standards and procedures to support consistent methods to improve equipment/station reliability. Communicate identified best practices between plants, regions, and subsidiaries. Ensure plants are kept abreast of new technology.
Coordinate and evaluate station maintenance programs to increase facility reliability. Assist or perform testing, generate reports, and interpret results for plant facilities. Direct and coordinate technical root cause analysis.
Design system modifications. Provide recommendations for modifications of systems to improve operations and maintenance processes for improved reliability
Coordinate maintenance/capital projects with plant and UE staff ensuring that plant needs are met. Perform system testing, compile data, and submit results for management and customer review; implementing as required. Provide proper documentation for all projects.
Provide detail and justification for multi-year budgets and outage work plans. Write specifications and purchase requisitions for services to support Production Resources activities. Act as liaison with contractors/service providers and Company.
Provide technical direction in lieu of architect/engineer or OEM technical representative in specialty area. Able to function in lead role in major O & M and capital projects.
High school diploma or equivalent
College level coursework and/or work experience demonstrating knowledge of standard engineering principles, practices and techniques
3 years experience of Specialist Level II experience equivalent and demonstrates thorough knowledge of facility operations and maintenance processes across the fleet with expertise acquired in one or more of the following areas: process control, electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers, performance, or metallurgy (equivalent OEM experience may be acceptable)
9 years experience in power generation (industrial power, equipment OEM operations and maintenance experience may substitute)
Ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules
Experience in supervising craft employees
7+ years of turbine-related experience, specifically with inspection, disassembly, and assembly of turbines or rotating equipment preferred.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $82,700 to $117,566 per year
