Xcel Energy Production Specialist I or II - NDE Technician Job in Denver, Colorado

This position is for an NDE technician with a background in power plant equipment inspections. Seeking advanced knowledge in ASME section V for NDE procedure requirements. Will also be required to oversee contractor personnel, procedures, and inspection report reviews as necessary.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct Non-Destructive Examinations (NDE) of components and materials in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures.

  • Utilize the appropriate NDE methods to perform NDE inspections, including Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, Ultrasonic, and Visual inspections.

  • Under the guidance and supervision of the department manager, coordinate and evaluate station maintenance programs on a daily basis to increase facility reliability.

  • Provide technical/maintenance direction and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems to appropriate crews.

  • Provide major facility maintenance project supervision for scheduled and unscheduled outages.

  • Write specifications and purchase requisitions for services and/or items to support departmental needs.

  • Coordinate Energy Supply?s RCOM program and monitor facility efforts to increase reliability.

  • Develop, improve, and implement computerized scheduling techniques for major component outage processes.

  • Perform equipment analysis and inspection to accurately make recommendations for corrective action when necessary.

  • Act as liaison between contactors/service providers and the Company. Interface with the State Inspector and authorized insurance agent, and other regulatory agencies. Write specifications and purchase requisitions to support Production Resources activities.

Production Specialist I Minimum Requirements ( $62,700 to $89,033 per year)

  • College level coursework and/or work experience demonstrating knowledge of standard engineering principles, practices and techniques.

  • Experience in power generation or similar industrial experience is desirable.

  • Must be able to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.

Production Specialist II Minimum Requirements ($72,100 - $102,432 per year)

  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in power generation, or equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance that demonstrates knowledge of standard engineering principles/practices/techniques and power generation operations/maintenance processes with expertise in one or more of the following areas: process control, operational technology (OT), electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers/heat recovery steam generators, and/or non-destructive testing (NDE/NDT).

  • Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) experience is helpful.

  • Some college coursework in engineering is desirable.

  • Must have the ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.

  • Must be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.

  • Experience in supervising craft employees desired.

Preferred Requirements

  • Current ASNT level II certifications required in UT, PT, and MT

  • Experience with power plant equipment inspections such as boiler tube, B31.1 piping, turbine, and ASME section VIII pressure vessels.

  • Advanced knowledge in ASME section V for NDE procedure requirements.
