The purpose of the automated information and mapping (AIM) drafter internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing an associate’s or bachelor's degree. Interns may be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the utility business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, and full-time/hourly through the summer. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): The automated information and mapping drafter intern is responsible for updating and adding gas, electric and land base features to GTechnology using information provided by engineering and operations personnel. GTechnology is an extensive Geospatial Information System that serves as MidAmerican Energy Company's gas and electric distribution facilities model (map and database). Map new gas facilities in the GIS model. Assist AIM technicians by updating existing gas facilities in the GIS model. Accurately create records and document field information provided by gas operations in the GIS database. Update gas distribution maps and records as necessary. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Must be a college student currently enrolled in an associates or bachelor's degree program. Must be available May-August 2023. Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction field notes and records. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
