Position Summary

As a Senior Engineer within our Power Systems Data team at Oncor, you’ll leverage very large data sets and AI techniques to support Oncor Operations and Maintenance departments in their continuous effort to improve safety, increase reliability and provide better service to the 10 million customers in the Oncor service territory. To accomplish the desired results, the incumbent will utilize data sets such as operational data from the bulk power grid, outage event information, data from 3.8 million meters and asset information. The position may also use data external to Oncor such as weather, regulatory and demographic data.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and write code to execute use cases originating from various groups within Oncor.

  • Design and implement data analytics dashboards using power systems data, which includes a very large volume of meter data, to monitor and analyze assets, events, energy usage, and other related operational components.

  • Create tools and processes to locate and correct errors in the various power systems models including Transmission Management System (TMS), Distribution Management System (DMS) and Outage Management System (OMS).

  • Develop tools and algorithms to ensure data integrity in large data stores for both consolidated and distributed architectures.

  • Develop tools and algorithms to ensure robust data transfer processes such as Extract, Transform, Load (ETL).

  • Partner with vendors of the source systems to develop strategies for data curation and validation.

  • Create or improve processes to ensure a high level of compatibility among various data sources.

  • Ensure any information sent to regulators, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) as an example, is accurate and timely.

  • Train employees in Information Technology (IT), Operations, and other business units on how to use tools developed.

  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

  • Will travel to external companies and Oncor's Service Centers within Texas to attend training and conference and release projects.

Education & Experience :

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 5+ years of related engineering experience in Power System Operation & Maintenance, Power System Modeling & Analysis.

  • Will consider applicants with a Master’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and 3+ years of related engineering experience in Power System Operation & Maintenance, Power System Modeling & Analysis in lieu of above criteria.

  • Applicants with knowledge in Transmission and Distribution Management Systems (TMS/DMS), Common Information Model (CIM), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Advanced Meter Systems (AMS), Inter Control Center Protocol (ICCP), UNIX operating system are encouraged to apply.

  • Applicants with expert knowledge of Structured Query Languages (SQL), Python, .Net as well as advanced tools such as Spark, Cassandra, Hadoop or similar encouraged to apply.

Measure of Success :

  • Processes will be developed and procedures established to facilitate the creation, updating, and maintenance of corporate databases

  • Adequate tools are developed and maintained to allow support staff to manage all related databases and models in a manner that is compliant with all corporate and regulatory requirements

  • Appropriate input to Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Services management regarding staffing, system modifications, new products, and other relevant processes
