Overview
Rhode Island Energy is adding to their Gas Control SCADA team. SCADA is an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. This is a complex and highly configurable system which provides a human machine interface (HMI) to Gas Control Operators who monitor and maintain the natural gas distribution system. The successful candidate will support activities associated with the maintenance, monitoring, and installation of gas telemetry, instrumentation, and controls for the gas SCADA system. This position will have primary responsibility to support maintenance, design, and installation of remote terminal units (RTUs), gas system instrumentation and controls, telecommunication systems, gas metering, and gas quality systems. The position will also support day-to-day activities associated with the maintenance of the Gas SCADA system. #RIE #INDRIE
Responsibilities
Responsible for the design, configuration, and support repair and maintenance for all monitoring and control equipment including, electronic sensing devices, flow computers, RTUs, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), data communications equipment and services, computer hardware, and other gas telemetry devices.
Assures proper installation, reliability, accuracy, and maintenance of all computer hardware supporting control systems associated with the SCADA system.
Programming and configuration of flow computers, RTUs, and PLCs used to monitor and control the gas distribution system.
Coordinate with field personnel to provide proper calibration, repair and maintenance of gas measurement, telemetry equipment and communications infrastructure.
Research, test, and integrate new RTUs as part of an infrastructure replacement program focused on cyber security, future regulations, consolidation of hardware and system protocols.
Work with system administrators to deploy patches for servers and workstations associated with SCADA system, ensuring system continuity, and troubleshooting any abnormal functions.
Responsible for the periodic review of operations technology application software upgrade patches for mobile workstations. Manage the deployment of new patches, track and document the process.
Support Gas Control operations, responding to critical system issues providing timely resolutions. Response to critical issues may occur outside of normal business hours.
Interface with Engineering and Operations for the design and build process of new infrastructure and the replacement of existing stations.
Research, develop and implement future considerations for system configuration, hardware, software, and processes.
Qualifications
This position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the successful candidate's background and experience; entry level applicants will be considered.
Must be able to analyze operational requirements in a highly logical manner and be able to recommend modifications and improvements based on a thorough knowledge of computer processes and existing gas control system designs.
Analytical ability and technical skills to troubleshoot issues with field telemetry and control systems is desirable.
Project management skills to design, develop and oversee the commissioning of new computer systems, communications networks, and remotely controlled regulating stations is desirable.
Able to coordinate with cross functional teams to direct maintenance and repair activities.
Technical expertise sufficient to interact with technical professionals in all areas of the company to make decisions directly impacting control system design, installation and operation.
Must be a proactive problem solver and possess the ability to quickly remedy problems as they arise.
Must have a mechanical inclination and be able to learn and understand components of natural gas distribution system.
Ability to read and interpret Engineering designs and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
SCADA Specialist
- Associate’s degree in IT or Engineering, or equivalent work experience, plus 2 years relevant work experience.
Sr. SCADA Specialist
- Associate’s degree in IT or Engineering, or equivalent work experience, plus 5 years relevant work experience. Working knowledge of user end of SCADA is preferred.
Lead SCADA Specialist
- Bachelors or associate’s degree in IT or Engineering, or equivalent work experience, plus 7 years relevant work experience. Must have working knowledge of user end of SCADA.
