Brief Posting Description

Provides engineering support to Craig Station functional areas as assigned. Responsible for technical assistance and direction for outage support, troubleshooting operational and maintenance issues, and special project work including creation and development of technical specifications, schedules, and administration of contracts for the execution of projects in support of generation operations.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical engineering support to Craig Station functional areas as assigned.

  • Provide technical direction to other Tri-State groups and individuals as assigned.

  • Perform/coordinate engineering analyses for numerous and diverse systems.

  • Provide unit outage technical support to include scope of work, inspections, development of technical specifications and providing direction/oversight to contractors and/or station personnel in performing maintenance, new system and/or retrofitting work.

  • Provides technical assistance including troubleshooting of Operations and Maintenance issues.

  • Assist in development of Operations and Maintenance budgets and capital projects.

  • Assist with development, administration, reporting and implementation of capital projects including contract development, technical specifications and drawing bid packages.

  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of consulting firms and contractors, to include coordination and monitoring of work.

  • Assist in the performance testing of plant equipment and other specialized test as requested.

  • Assist with operational and maintenance procedures and equipment history.

  • Serve as project/manager engineer on assigned tasks, as required.

  • Direct the work of others, as required.

  • Assist with training of personnel.

  • Complete special projects and reports as assigned.

  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • General knowledge of power generation equipment, facilities and operations.

  • Prior experience with rotating equipment, vibration analysis/equipment balancing, predictive maintenance, boilers, piping, welding, steam turbines and large motors, 6900 VAC and 480 VAC preferred.

  • Prior experience in a supervisory capacity, technical director or engineer desired.

  • Working knowledge of computer software including but not limited to; CAD, Excel, MSWord.

  • Prior coal-fired power plant preferred.

  • Prior experience with power plant engineering, maintenance, operations and/or start-up preferred.

  • Knowledge of power plant outage planning.

  • Knowledge of the use and application of electric utility industry codes, standards and government regulations applicable to power generation operations, equipment and facilities including OSHA, EPA, ASME, NEC, IEEE, NFPA.

  • Working knowledge of safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, including technical information, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to write technical reports.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to coordinate and direct the work of others.

  • Familiarity with labor agreements.

  • Ability to achieve goals and expectations.

Experience:

  • Zero (0) to eight (8 1/2) years of experience with engineering operations and maintenance support of power generation equipment, facilities, and systems or power utility design work, construction or maintenance in power generation related programs.

Other:

  • Willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver's license).

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position.

  • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to read, write, perform math at a level required to prepare, review and analyze related complex and/or engineering calculations associated with power plant equipment and systems operations and maintenance, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, and present information to others and work under pressure.

  • Work Environment : While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to dust, varying noise levels and electrical risks, works around large power plant/industrial operating equipment. The incumbent will perform some work at heights and in confined spaces. The incumbent will perform some work exposed to weather and/or temperature extremes, both cold and heat.

Engineer I - Hiring salary range: $61,000 - $76,000

Engineer II - Hiring salary range: $74,000 - $92,000

Engineer III - Hiring salary range: $90,000 - $112,000

Senior Engineer - Hiring salary range: $99,000 - $123,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
