How can you benefit EnergyUnited? In this role you will:

  • Participate in the training of linemen as scheduled and assigned by the Region Line Manager.

  • Make sure that the assigned crewmembers are given direction and training in those skills and knowledge required for their promotion to the next lineman’s classification.

  • Appraise crewmembers’ performance and recommends wage adjustments, promotions, reassignments, and dismissal for cause.

  • Will be subject to on-call work required for restoration of service to member-owners.

  • Make judgment in deciding when and what additional personnel and equipment are needed to restore power.

  • Supervise assigned crew members in the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system and plant facilities. Knowledgeable about policies, rates, and service rules and regulations.

  • Organize the working crew and materials so as to accomplish work assigned in an efficient manner and in accordance with specifications.

  • Perform those duties expected of a Journeyman Lineman as a “working” Crew Leader.

  • Make sure the trucks, tools and work equipment assigned to himself/herself and crew members are properly used and kept in good working condition.

  • Check job orders, etc., against job material requirements, and, as much as possible, makes sure that materials and equipment necessary for work completion are present at the job site at the time they are needed so that work can proceed without delay.

  • Follow and enforce safety rules and regulations of the Co-op.

  • Present and participate in scheduled safety meetings as assigned.

  • Thoroughly and accurately maintain and complete all necessary records including time sheets, staking sheets, material accounting, vehicle mileage, service orders, meter readings, outage records, and other reports as required.

  • Perform other job-related duties as requested or directed.

Skills & Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Additional supervisor training is desirable.

  • Minimum of one year’s experience as a Journeyman Lineman is required.

  • Must be highly knowledgeable with current electric power line construction practices, both overhead and underground, distribution and transmission.

  • Knowledge of RUS construction specifications, electric metering, NESC, and electronics a plus.

  • Must have a North Carolina Commercial Drivers License – Class A with good driving record.

  • Must have a positive, open mind and considerate attitude toward the responsibilities of the position.

  • Will be expected to pull on-call duty after becoming familiar with the Region. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions.

  • Must be a self-starter.

  • Must have an attitude of neatness, timeliness, orderliness and accuracy toward the job.

  • Must possess a very conscientious attitude toward record keeping.

  • Must have ability to implement work plans, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions.

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, as well as work in harmony with many different personality types.

  • Must be able to work with very little supervision and be proactive in responsibilities.

  • Must possess a strong ability to communicate in both verbal and written form.

This position is a Direct Operational Position. All employees assigned to an operational position in headquarters or in a district or regional office must make their domicile not more than a twenty (20) mile radius from the Cornelius, NC office.
