SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Superintendent has a shared responsibility with the Account Managers for a defined workforce (electric, boring, gas, etc.), not for a specific customer.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Best In The Industry:

  • Responsible for developing the INTREN workforce to be the best in the industry including: safety, quality of workmanship, operating fundamentals, knowledge of equipment, tooling & work techniques, and productivity (i.e. competitive in market).

  • Participates in industry forums and associations to stay at forefront of new technologies and practices.

  • Develops and implements improvement plans with the Account Manager as required (OSHA, DI-s, SI-s, costs, equipment utilization rates, equipment damage, preventative maintenance, etc.).

  • Identifies equipment and specifications needed to execute work to meet safety, quality and productivity standards.

  • Maintains log of lessons learned for review with department staff.

  • Maintains copies of department personnel training records, ensures periodic refresher training is completed and provides opportunities for cross training.


Manages Union Workforce:

Works with the General Foreman to ensure the following:

  • Assists to ensure all employees are trained on and understand company policies and department goals.

  • Responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance with all union contracts.

  • Identifies expectations and qualifications for the field positions (general foremen, foremen, crew members, groundmen, etc.).

  • Acts as a resource for the Project Manager to define performance expectations and works with general foremen to document positive behaviors and those that will lead to disciplinary action.

  • Coaches and mentors employees and assists the Account Manager and Project Manager in maintaining a department succession plan.


Maintains Manpower Loading and Work Forecasts:

Works the all Account Managers to ensure the following:

  • Develops a manpower plan and work schedule to forecast demand vs. available workforce.

  • Makes proper adjustments in workforce based on work demand.

  • Works with Project Managers and Account Managers to help facilitate required labor to support projects or work orders.


Cost and Productivity:

Acts as a resource for Account Managers:

  • Responsible for meeting department annual budget, contract cost targets, and productivity improvement targets.

  • Evaluates average cost per unit of measure and leads team to establish and achieve improvement targets.


Support:

  • Provides manpower and equipment to support Project Managers.

  • Provides support to Account Managers team (Project Managers, Estimators, etc.) by providing consulting expertise for estimating or project development.


DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a strong knowledge of field operations, and have demonstrated leadership abilities.
